Escara couldn’t keep from weeping, covering her mouth trying to keep silent. She could hear someone quite close calling out in a language she did not understand. Fear welling up deep inside her causing the muscles in her back to knot up. She felt for sure her end was near. Someone had called out close by and was slowly moving closer. She quietly pulled on the anchor of the trap that held fast by her leg, but it didn’t give.
A metallic click made her look up in the direction from which it had come.
Escara held her breath as the brush to the front of her parted. A rifle barrel slowly poked through followed by a man’s upper body. His dirty face had a hard cast to it. His hazel eyes cold, merciless appearing. His weapon, large and evil looking. She was sure he was about to end her life.
John had found the source of the weeping and he paused. There, nestled beneath a bush lay a small, petite, young woman leaning on one elbow. Her other arm grasping a chain anchored to the ground with her leg held fast in a trap on the other end. The young woman startled at the sight of him, looking at John and his rifle with fear and desperation on her face, tears streaking down her cheeks when blinked. For a moment, neither one of them moved or spoke.
"I beg of you to make it quick." She sobbed in a language John couldn't understand and turned her face away from him… by @rhubeus
