If you’re new here… hello, I’m Leone Buyse (it rhymes with spicy 🌶️). Stay tuned—my pinky technique exercise video is coming soon! 👀✨ #flute #flutelife #flutetechnique #flutist by @rhymeswithspicy

Few orchestral excerpts capture lightness, brilliance, and joy quite like Volière.

Here’s my performance from 1994 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Seiji Ozawa. Even after all these years, this music still makes me smile.

As the National Flute Association Convention begins today, I hope this little bit of Saint-Saëns helps kick off a wonderful weekend for flutists everywhere. 💛 by @rhymeswithspicy

A Sunday brunch for the ages, surrounded by a roomful of extraordinary flutists, brilliant former students, and lifelong friends the morning after my retirement celebration! 🥂✨

What a joy to gather around the table with so many wonderful alumni from across my years of teaching: Andrea Caplan (Associate Principal Flute, St. Louis Symphony), Mike Gordon (Principal Flute, Kansas City Symphony), Henrik Heide (Associate Principal Flute, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra), Cathy Paine (Piccolo, San Francisco Symphony), Doug DeVries, Matthew Roitstein (Associate Principal, Houston Symphony), Kate Ladner (Piccolo, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, then of the Houston Symphony) alongside Kayla Burggraf (Principal Flute, Houston Symphony, then Piccolo, Kansas City Symphony), Hannah Hammel (Principal Flute, Detroit Symphony Orchestra), Christine Murphy (Associate Principal Flute, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra), Mark Teplitsky (Principal Flute, Naples Philharmonic).

Seeing where your paths have led and feeling the warmth, laughter, and music that binds us all together is the greatest reward a teacher could ever ask for. 🎶💛 by @rhymeswithspicy

Surrounded by love at my Shepherd School retirement celebration with two of my closest friends and dearest colleagues, Ben Kamins and Janet Rarick. 💛 Years of shared teaching, chamber music, laughter, and support at Rice made this milestone so deeply meaningful. I couldn’t have asked for better partners on the journey! 🎶✨ #ShepherdSchool #RiceUniversity #FluteFamily #WoodwindCommunity by @rhymeswithspicy

A very special memory with two remarkable musical forces — my dear, missed friend Larry Rachleff and the brilliant composer Gabriella Lena Frank. 🎶 To share moments, conversation, and music with artists of such deep vision and passion is a gift I hold close to my heart. 💛 #LarryRachleff #GabriellaLenaFrank #ShepherdSchool #ContemporaryMusic by @rhymeswithspicy

One of the most powerful and demanding moments in the orchestral repertoire: the famous flute solo from the 4th movement of Brahms’s Symphony No. 4. 🎶✨

Recorded live with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the baton of the great Maestro Bernard Haitink. Sharing the stage with Haitink was always an unforgettable experience, making this masterpiece even more special to revisit. 🎼

With the radiant Paula Robison after her inspiring class at Rice. ✨ Her magnetic artistry, boundless energy, and deep devotion to music have been a beacon for generations of flutists. Spending time with her is always a joy and a inspiration! 🎶💛 #PaulaRobison #FluteLegends #FluteFamily by @rhymeswithspicy

Remembering my dear friend, the incomparable Michel Debost. ✨ His artistry, wisdom, and inimitable wit left an indelible mark on the flute world and on my heart. I am deeply touched and honored to be traveling next month to speak at his memorial service in his memory. Celebrating a life so magnificently lived. 🎶💛 #MichelDebost #FluteLegacy #FrenchFluteSchool by @rhymeswithspicy

A truly extraordinary memory shared with two legendary flutists and dear friends — Sir James Galway and Doriot Anthony Dwyer, taken during a lunch at Doriot’s cottage. ✨ Both were extraordinary flutists of course, and Doriot’s legacy as Principal Flute of the Boston Symphony remains historic and pioneering. Grateful for these lasting bonds. 🎶 #FluteLegends #DoriotAnthonyDwyer #JamesGalway #BostonSymphony by @rhymeswithspicy

Surrounded by an incredible cast of YOA (now OAcademy) woodwind players, alongside Leone and Ricardo Castro! The enthusiasm and artistry of these young musicians made every moment together unforgettable. 🎶

Calling all woodwind players and instrumentalists: OAcademy is currently taking applications for their studio programs!

The magic of Debussy continues! Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune — here is the extended solo (Rehearsal 2 to 3) from Michael Webster’s arrangement for flute, clarinet, and piano! 🎶✨ Recorded in 2001 with Michael and pianist Robert Moeling for our Tour de France album on Crystal Records. 💿

In the background, another favorite memory from those summer masterclasses in Nice with Jean-Pierre Rampal in the 1970s! Sitting at the piano, in a pair of sunglasses gifted to me by my sweet classmates, with Rampal and his flute in the background. 🕶️🎹 French summer memories at their finest! 💖
