The Rhythm X Battery Sound 🎼

SNARES
● Drums: FFXCC Championship CarbonCore
● Heads: Evans Hybrid Snare Drumhead (top) + MX5 (bottom)
● Sticks: Promark DCPM1
● Tune the bottom head to a D
● Keep the tops lower than a D, typically around a C-C#
● The gut tension should be around a C
● Make sure the guts are flush with the bottom head (no downward bend past the shell)
● Apply lithium grease inside the lug casings

● Heads: Evans TCX
● Sticks: Promark Tim Jackson signature sticks
● Tuning (low to high): B-D-E-G# | We tune to the main overtone because that’s the main pitch we hear. If you hear the fundamental, it’s F#-A-B-D#
● Spocks: high and a fourth below high
● Apply lithium grease inside the lug casings

● Drums: Pearl Championship Maple Series (16-18-20-24-28”)
● Heads: Evans MS1s custom printed
● Mallets: Promark Performer Series Bass Drum Mallets (PSMB) 1, 2, 2, 3, 4
● Foam: from foamonline.com, 2” depth into the shell, and increasing height by 1/4 of an inch: 0.75”, 1”, 1.25”, 1.5”, 1.75” (top to bottom). We eyeball it for amount sticking out past the bearing edge.
● Tuning (low to high): E-B-E-A-C#
● Apply lithium grease inside the lug casings

● Why X? I saw Rhythm X in-person for the first time in 2019, which inspired me to continue marching after high school. Following my summer with the Cavaliers, I was eager to audition because it was my dream to land a spot, and many of my friends were here too. I’m happy that I can now call X my home, and I’m excited to age out surrounded by my family.

● Why X? After seeing X in person for the first time in 2022, I fell in love with the ensemble. The entire admin team, instructional staff, and support staff are next level. Adam Norris, Josh Brickey, and many other staff members encouraged me to show up, and with Tim’s writing it was a no brainer. Proud to say I’ve found a home here and happy to be back following a phenomenal 2025 season!
