POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
This past week, the Rhode Island Army National Guard welcomed community leaders from across the state for an opportunity to connect, share resources, and highlight the opportunities available through the Guard.

Today, we are honored to host the Change of Command between LTC Jarred Rickey and LTC Jeffrey Ahern.

Under LTC Rickey’s command, the Recruiting and Retention Battalion exceeded mission every year. In FY-25, the RI RRBN was recognized as the #1 small state and #2 overall in the nation. LTC Rickey’s leadership was a vital instrument in the success of the Recruiting and Retention Battalion and the Rhode Island Army National Guard as a whole.

LTC Ahern enters the organization after numerous roles within the National Guard, to include roles of responsibility in the Infantry, Military Police, and Field Artillery. His leadership and expertise will be the catalyst to building upon all of the success the RI Army National Guard has had.

Thank you very much LTC Rickey and welcome to the team LTC Ahern! by @riarmyguard

The 103rd kicked off this past drill weekend with a ruck march to Range Kilo at Fort Devens before moving into weapons training and qualification. These soldiers worked on zeroing and qualifying with the M4 and M249, along with familiarization and breakdown classes covering the M4, M249, and M240.

Throughout the weekend, soldiers also received first aid classes on how to properly assist a wounded soldier and took part in MATV familiarization training to learn more about the vehicle and its capabilities.

From the ruck march to the range, the weekend focused on building skills, teamwork, and keeping soldiers ready for their mission.

The Rhode Island Army National Guard partnered with the Rhode Island Interscholastic League (RIIL) to bring together high school athletes from various schools from across the state for a day focused on leadership, teamwork, and communication.

Athletes took on the obstacle course, worked together through team-building challenges, and put their fitness to the test with the Army Fitness Test. The day wrapped up with lunch and recognizing the top leader from each group.

Through events like these, we’re helping develop the next generation of leaders on and off the field.

Thank you to the @riil_sports staff as well as every single one of our Recruiters and Soldiers that worked hard to put this event together!

Last week we were honored to promote Sergeant Crowley to Staff Sergeant!

She enlisted in 2021 as a 27D Paralegal Specialist and began her career working in the JAG’s Office before making the move to become a Recruiter. Today, she’s using that experience to help connect people in her community with opportunities in the Army National Guard. She says recruiting is rewarding because she gets the opportunity to make a positive difference in people’s lives and be the bridge between the civilian world and the Army National Guard.

While serving as a recruiter, she’s also in her final semester of studying Political Science at URI with plans to attend law school. She believes in what she tells the people she works with because she knows firsthand what the Guard can offer.

Congratulations, Staff Sergeant Crowley on this well-earned promotion! We’re excited to see where your continued service takes you. by @riarmyguard

Meet SGT Simon Galeano, the RI Army National Guard’s newest Ranger School Graduate.

He joined the National Guard in December 2018 because he wanted to serve in the Army and go to school at the same time. The Guard made that possible for him.

Ranger school is considered the ultimate leadership school in the United States Army. Candidates go through intense physical and mental stress throughout the 61 day course.

“Being a Ranger means everything to me, since growing up in an infantry unit, those were the soldiers every new private looked up to.”

Congratulations SGT Galeano!

Today, this year’s Minuteman Scholarship Recipients and their families had the opportunity to sit down with Major General Chevalier, The Adjutant General of the Rhode Island National Guard. Cadet Makenzie Allcroft and Cadet Lillian Doak received a 4-year scholarship to the University of Rhode Island valued at $166,000 each. With the National Guard’s state tuition waiver, this scholarship provides them with a full-ride, including room and board.

Cadet Nuvia Torrez-Flores received a 3 year scholarship to Providence College valued at $205,440!

In total, our 3 Minuteman Scholarship Recipients received a combined total of $571,880!

All three of these Cadets received a coin from Major General Chevalier, as they embark on their first step to being future leaders of our organization.
