Okay… THIS is freaking amazing. 🐋😭

If you’ve been here lately, then you already know I have not shut up about Whalefall.

Five stars.
Favorite read of 2026 so far.
And one of those books that completely surprised me because I went in expecting this wild, claustrophobic survival story and came out thinking about grief, guilt, legacy, and that complicated father-son relationship.

Then the trailer dropped.
Then I started counting down to October 16.
Then I jokingly said you could consider me your unofficial Whalefall correspondent.

And then Reddit came through. 😂

I am officially ON THE LIST for a Whalefall screening this Friday, October 9, at Regal Times Square in NYC.

ONE WEEK before the movie officially hits theaters.

And we’re talking Whalefall in 4DX.

WHAT?! 😭🐋🍿

I genuinely cannot believe this!!

I’ve been having so much fun watching one of my favorite reads move from page to screen, and now I get to experience it early.

Whalefall correspondent duties have officially escalated. 😂🐋

Screening: October 9
In theaters: October 16

ARC REVIEW 🏰🖤

Some places are beautiful because they’re hiding something.

Please Enjoy Your Stay follows Mia back to the Austrian hotel where her cousin was murdered twelve years earlier. As old secrets resurface and a true-crime podcast begins questioning the case, Mia starts wondering whether the story she’s believed all these years was ever the whole truth.

The atmosphere was my favorite part. The castle, fog, ravens, hidden history, and constant feeling that something wasn’t quite right gave this such a strong gothic vibe.

I did struggle a little with some of Mia’s investigative choices, which occasionally felt more convenient than believable, but the final stretch brought the tension back and delivered a much stronger payoff.

⭐ 3.75/5

October Book of the Month unboxing 🍂📚

This month’s box feels made for darker reading days: haunted spaces, complicated families, unreliable stories, and things that refuse to stay buried.

📖 When the Night Comes Knocking by Katherine Daniel
Estranged siblings, strangers trapped in a roadside store, and something waiting outside in the North Georgia mountains.

🏚️ The Sisters of Crimson House by Melissa Anderson Sweazy
A Southern Gothic mansion, psychic sisters, and family secrets that refuse to stay buried.

🥃 The Four Wives and Five Deaths of Richard Milford by Nafissa Thompson-Spires
1920s Oklahoma. One dead moonshiner. Four wives. Four very different versions of what happened.

🖤 Beloved by Toni Morrison
A reread for me, and one I’m especially curious to return to. Memory, grief, motherhood, and a past that never truly stays in the past.

Four books. Four very different kinds of darkness.

Which one would you start with first? 🖤

5 stars.
Favorite read of 2026 so far.
And honestly? It’s not even close. 🐋

Whalefall swallowed me whole, pun fully intended.

I went into this expecting a brutal, claustrophobic survival story. What I didn’t expect was how emotional it would become.

Underneath the panic and the fight to survive is grief, guilt, regret, legacy, and a complicated father-son relationship that gave this story so much more weight than I was prepared for.

That’s what made Whalefall unforgettable for me.

And now we’re getting closer to seeing it on the big screen.

Whalefall hits theaters October 16, so yes, for the next couple of weeks you can consider me your unofficial Whalefall correspondent. 😂

If you haven’t read @kraus_author book yet, this is your sign.

And if you have…

you already know. 🐋🍿

👻 FIVE FOR FRIDAY…on Saturday
5 Books to Kick Off Spooky Season

A day late, but the spooky vibes are still very much intact. 🎃🖤

October is here, which means I want my books darker, moodier, and preferably involving a creepy house, a ghost, an old murder, or a secret that should have stayed buried.

These aren’t necessarily the books that will have you sleeping with every light on.

This is about the vibe.

🏨 The Sun Down Motel: Creepy motel, ghosts, and a decades-old disappearance.

🏚️ The Only One Left: Gothic mansion, murder, and family secrets.

🕯️ Japanese Gothic: Dark, moody, atmospheric, and easily one of my favorite reads of the entire year. This one gave me exactly the kind of gothic atmosphere I love during spooky season.

👻 The Taking of Jake Livingston: Supernatural horror with a genuinely sinister spirit.

🔑 Home Before Dark: Haunted-house vibes and the question of what really happened there.

Five books that just feel like October. 🍂👻🕯️

What book puts you in the mood for spooky season?

I gave Whalefall five stars, and now we’re officially counting down to seeing this story on the big screen. 🐋

I went into this expecting an intense survival story, and it absolutely delivered the claustrophobia, panic, and desperation.

But what stayed with me most was everything underneath that.

The grief.
The guilt.
The complicated relationship between a father and son.
The emotional weight that made this story hit so much harder than I expected.

That’s the part I’m most excited to see translated to film.

The visuals already look intense, but if the movie captures the emotional heart of this story too, I already know this one is going to get me.

Whalefall hits theaters October 16, and I am officially in countdown mode.

Have you read the book yet, or are you planning to go into the movie completely blind?

There is something deeply unsettling about being told you are safe while every instinct in your body is telling you otherwise.

That is exactly where Moss and Mirrors pulled me in.

@nicole.m.king.author builds this one slowly, through manipulation, memory, trauma, and that quiet feeling that something just isn’t right. The writing was one of the strongest parts for me. Atmospheric, claustrophobic, and deeply psychological.

I also really loved Quinn’s emotional journey and the quieter relationship moments that gave this story so much heart beneath all the unease.

The middle felt a little repetitive in places, and I wanted a bit more from the final payoff, but overall this was very much my kind of psychological suspense.

Sometimes the scariest thing isn’t knowing you’re trapped.

It’s believing you’re finally safe.

⭐️ 4/5

Moss and Mirrors by Nicole M. King is OUT NOW.

Thank you to Nicole M. King and Inside Story for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Imagine being trapped in the dark, running out of oxygen, with no idea if you’re ever getting out.

That’s the kind of panic Whalefall puts you inside.

But somehow, beneath all that terror, this becomes a story about grief, regret, and the complicated love between a father and son.

I went into this expecting survival horror. I did not expect it to hit me emotionally the way it did.

And once I learned what a whale fall actually is, the title took on an entirely different meaning.

Claustrophobic. Beautiful. Devastating.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This one is going to stay with me for a while.

A very exciting email landed in my inbox yesterday… 🔪📚

I am absolutely THRILLED to share that I was selected as one of only 20 BookTok and Bookstagram creators receiving the Killing Me Softly PR thriller box from Emma Jane King ahead of its October 27 release!

I genuinely had to read the email twice. Being selected from so many wonderful applicants and knowing that Emma spent time looking through my content, reviews, and platforms makes this opportunity feel even more special.

My PR box will include a signed copy of Killing Me Softly, exclusive bookish goodies, a few killer surprises, and a complimentary eARC so I can start reading before release day!

And listen to this setup:

🔪 Obsession
🔪 Murder
🔪 Small-town secrets
🔪 Dangerous attraction
🔪 Messy relationships
🔪 Morally questionable people

In other words, it sounds completely up my alley!

Thank you so much, @emmajanekingauthor , for choosing me and trusting me to be part of this release. I cannot wait to receive the box, dive into the book, and share the entire experience with my thriller-loving besties!

October 27 cannot get here fast enough. 🖤

BLIND DATE WITH A BOOK: Did I meet my match? 👀📚

Last night, Best of Books and Ellis Island Coffee and Wine Lounge hosted the cutest bookish night in Edmond! My ticket included a wrapped mystery book, a drink, and a bookish activity, plus plenty of goodies to shop.

Naturally, I went straight to the HORROR table. 🖤 My clues promised multiple timelines, dark historical secrets, supernatural elements, and social commentary. That was enough for me!

My blind date turned out to be I’ll Watch Your Baby by Neena Viel, a dark, layered horror story connecting two women across 1974 and 1994 through schemes, survival, generational trauma, and unfinished business. I’m intrigued!

Such a fun Friday night, and I would absolutely do this again. Which genre would you choose: Romance, Fantasy, Mystery, or Horror?

A little Stephen King Birthday Bash mini haul because I definitely did not leave empty-handed. 😂📚🎈

Huge shoutout to @secondstorybooksokc for putting on such a fun event, and to @bigdawgbooks for coming through with some incredible finds!

From Big Dawg Books, I picked up:

📖 A gorgeous hardcover edition of Rose Madder
📖 Alfred Hitchcock’s Happiness Is a Warm Corpse: a 1969 Dell “Master’s Choice” first-time-in-paperback edition
📖 Dune Messiah: a 1975 Berkley edition

I also grabbed a pullover that says “Based on a novel by Stephen King” and I already know I’m going to live in it. 😂 Plus a little Stephen King postcard with the quote:

“The road to hell is paved with adverbs.”

One of my favorite parts was seeing not only Stephen King’s books and books from his family, but also a Stephen King Recommends section. Naturally, I picked up The Hobbit from there too. 📚

Such a fun day, and this is only the mini haul. I have more photos and video from the Birthday Bash coming soon! 👀

If you’re in the OKC area, definitely check out Second Story Books and Big Dawg Books. I already can’t wait to see what they do next year! 👑🎈

Disclaimer: Filmed yesterday 😝

Serial Killer Wanted had me from the premise alone because this is exactly the kind of book that makes you stop and go… wait, WHAT did I just read? 😂

This one is dark, witty, messy, sapphic, and just a little bit unhinged. I really enjoyed the main character’s voice, sharp, sarcastic, and entertaining in a way that kept the darker moments from feeling too heavy.

The banter worked for me, the morally gray energy was STRONG, and I loved never quite knowing where the story was headed next.

It started out feeling like it might be a 4.5⭐ read for me, but ultimately settled at a 4/5. Still, I had a really fun time with this one and would absolutely recommend it to readers who love dark humor, messy women, sapphic tension, and thrillers with an offbeat premise.

⭐ 4/5
