Hi Everyone! My name is Brooklyn Hodge, and here is a quick glimpse of my story. (2019)

I was an excelling student in high school, I had a great group of friends, participated in sports, and a school geek. I was always involved in school how a regular teen should be. My life was chugging along, and then I noticed a large mass in my leg. I went to the hospital and got multiple scans done, and a group of Dr.s believed I had cancer. This put a huge shock on me and my family. Having cancer at such a young age was unheard of….

I had my first two surgeries that week, and began chemotherapy two days later. My oncologist exclaimed to me that going to school would be nearly impossible and unsafe due to my rigorous chemotherapy treatment plan. I felt down about this because I felt a huge part of my life has been taken away not being able to go to school and living life a regular teen should live.

My treatment felt forever; I spent countless days in the hospital. But, the hospital I stayed in made me feel like I was a teen again. They brought activities to my hospital room, had a dance for myself and other patients where we dressed up, got our nails and makeup done by stylist, and plenty more activities for myself and other patients to participate in during our chemotherapy treatment.

I am truly blessed to say that I am a Cancer Survivor. Enduring cancer is a huge burden on the patient, and on their family. I wanted to create an organization to give back to children and teens who are going through a situation similar to mine. This is how I came up with Ribbons of Bliss! An organization to create happiness during a rough time. The goal of Ribbons of Bliss is to donate items whether they are supplies or hand-made items to children and teens battling cancer. My first project ideas will be announced shortly!

Join us for a DIY Robotic Aquarium project hosted by Ribbons of Bliss on Thursday, October 10th at 4:00 P.M. in the McNeil Classroom. Volunteers will have the opportunity to create a unique aquarium for a pediatric oncology patient. Sign up via the link in our bio on GivePulse. All aquariums will be donated to a local pediatric oncology unit. 🐡🌊

Ribbons of Bliss will be having a milkshake fundraiser on Tuesday, October 1st beginning at 1:30 P.M. at Metropolitan United Methodist Church next to the NCA&T Health Center. All proceeds go towards Ribbons of Bliss Service events to support their cause.
