Last Class
4/15/26
On Wednesday I attended my last life drawing session before moving in a few months. I have grown so much as an artist over the two years I attended these sessions. I am beyond grateful for the community of artists I have met and for all the gifts they have given me. This last class I sketched, I painted, and I challenged myself to watercolor on a large scale (thanks to Doug gifting me this large sheet of paper at the start of class)! I will post again soon with more images of my work from these sessions over the last two years, but for now I was to enjoy the sweetness of this last session, the amount of play and comfort that’s apparent in my work, and how free I’ve felt as an artist lately. This is your reminder to pour your heart into your hobbies and into your creative interests. It will fill you with so much joy <3 by @ribellearts

The love in my sketchbook
July-December 2025
Pencil and paper
I started figure drawing in my life drawing class a little over a year ago. I fell in love with the shapes and expression of the human body. When the class ended in the summer, I realized that I didn’t want my skills to get ‘rusty,’ but I wasn’t used to drawing in my daily routine. I was working at a coffee shop at the time and just as my class ended with school, so did the morning rush of students and afternoon bustle of professors. One day I decided to bring my sketch book to work, and when we had down time, I stood at the register and started sketching customers in the shop. Some of them were strangers and others were regulars that I had grown close to. Life drawing in context was new and brought with it many challenges (clothing, movement, your model suddenly leaving, etc) but that helped me expand my skills and draw with ease. Every time I started to sketch, there was a chance I would never finish it. It made me work quickly, relying on my naked eye and trusting the skills I had built. I drew some of my favorite pieces at work and I will cherish them for a very long time.
In December, artists in my family web challenge ourselves to draw/paint/create everyday — we call them “December dailies.” I decided to focus on figure sketching this past December, and most of the people I was around were my friends and roommates. This brought on another challenge: drawing your loved ones. When we see someone everyday, know their expressions, their smiles, their quirks, it’s easy to be critical of yourself when you can tell the drawing doesn’t capture the sparkle in their eye or the curve of their nose. I had to trust myself again. I had to draw with freedom and forgiveness and remind myself that art is impression. There is a reason we paint and a reason we take photographs. My drawings are not photographs and I am learning to not judge them as such.
This series is from my time drawing as a barista and my December dailies from 2025. I love seeing them all together in one place, noticing how I’ve grown and the unique style of my art. I look forward to what 2026 will offer me as an artist. by @ribellearts

I love getting to visit my Grandmama’s house in the summer when it’s warm enough to spend a day in her pottery shed throwing little bowls and mugs!

Doodle Date
6/1/25
Pencil on paper
Spent a wonderful afternoon doodling with two of my favorite art dates. All three of us would go to a life drawing class together periodically throughout this past year, but it doesn’t run through the summer. The three of us wanted to still make art together even when we didn’t have an organized class so we committed ourselves to doodle dates!
I sketched both my friend Sydney and Franny this afternoon. I loved capturing both of their postures and discovering the little details and characteristics that make them distinct. I also included Sydney’s drawing of me and Franny’s sketches at the end! It’s so cool to see all of our different styles and perspectives in what we draw.
I’m filled with so much gratitude for the time I’ve been getting to spend with my friends creating art lately. It’s been such a special summer so far and I can’t wait for more opportunities to make art 🤍 (Look forward to some more sketch dumps from May!) by @ribellearts

acrylic on canvas
I made this piece for a class where our project prompt was to make some sort of creative project that is meaningful to you. I decided to make a self portrait of my inner self as it respects and holds a place for my anxiety. I started this piece by making a reference photo and then grinding a sketch of that reference on to my canvas. I then did a blue wash for the background and I started blocking the colors of the face and then of the hands. I went in with details in the hands and then back to the face. At that point I added in the hair and painted the dark blue background. The last things I did were touch ups of the eyes and nose, and then the ball of anxiety/energy!! I am super proud of this piece and it has inspired me to continue to trust myself and think big in future projects <3

art-a-day december 2023
12/23
Pen, watercolor, and paper
I drew or painted (almost) every day of December, alongside two of my cousins and a family friend. Each day we would send photos of our work in a group chat and share what we worked on that day!! Here are 10 of the drawings/paintings I did during the month long challenge. Drawing and painting so often and so casually allowed me to let me let go of the pressure to create something *perfect* because I knew I would get to draw again the next day. I noticed great improvement in my sketching skills and my eye for observing spaces I was in and recreating it in paper. Making art once a day was so much fun, and I hope to do it again in May when my cousins do it again. I love all of these pieces and finally was able to put them all in a post to share, enjoy!! 😌✨
