Paintings by @will__barras. These are actually one painting cut in half. But they kinda work ok separately as they’re pretty abstract. It was originally painted 20years ago for the Scrawl Collective show Elephant Technique at @villageunderground. It is one of 5 huge 3m x 2m paintings that were hung high over the viewers heads. I have the other 4 paintings by @mr_jago @steff_plaetz @phil_ashcroft and @dannysangra in storage. They were cut in half after the show for storage purposes by @aurofoxcroft at Village Underground and recently sent back to me when he needed the space and couldn’t store them any longer. Will’s one was in such good nick I cleaned it up and hung it in my lounge and kitchen. The others need a bit more tlc but all are pretty much intact. I’ll dig out my pics from the show soon and post some of them. @fatsarazzi took some great pics that night I remember. We’d done a lot of stuff in Japan in the years before this show and I think you can see the influence of those trips in this painting by Will. It’s freer than earlier work and I see it as something of a milestone in where his painting has gone since. The flowing colours are definitely a direct result of having painted such a lot with @kami_htzk and @sasu_lyri in the early noughties. We were just feeling our way for most of our early years, them as artists and myself as a curator but this show was definitely the one where we delivered on all that early promise. I never thought I’d see these paintings again! Thanks Auro for not just chucking them and thanks for letting us have that wonderful space for a few weeks to do our stuff in. Elephant Technique will always be one of the highlights of my somewhat idiosyncratic career! by @ricblackshaw
