I couldn’t be happier than I was this past weekend. After working with the @patricethemovie team for the past year I finally had the chance to meet Patrice, Garry and most of the team in person! It was a long time coming and I am sooooo glad I was able to be with the team this weekend. Being in LA for the Emmys was unforgettable. I had many flashbacks to when I was in LA with the Crip Camp team for the Oscar’s in 2021 and was really hoping for a different outcome than we had last time. Regardless of if we won, I was just happy to spend time with Patrice and finally dance together at the after party. Winning an Emmy for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking and having disability representation finally given the credit it deserves means so much to our community. Having a ramp to the stage where the entire team could roll up the stage was an important moment. I can’t wait for you all to hear Patrice’s speech - dedicating the award to all of our disabled siblings. I will follow the Patrice team to the ends of the Earth. It is truly an honor of a lifetime to call these incredible people my family. If you haven’t seen Patrice: The Movie yet, idk what you’re waiting for. Go watch and fall in love with Patrice. Join our impact campaign to change the marriage penalty for disabled people and help improve the lives of those living in poverty. We can’t do this without you. by @ricearosie

CEASE FIRE NOW!! I cannot and will not stay silent. I am ashamed to live in this country who openly supports genocide. It feels like I can do so little compared to the ache that is in my bones. Everyone who enters our home or passes by will know we stand with Palestine. by @ricearosie

The waves of grief continue to roll over me pulling me deeper under water. My heart feels like I’ve been in a tsunami of grief and it feels relentless. Grief and her waves continue to crash onto me even when I haven’t caught my breath from the last wave. Over the past year I’ve lost too many loved ones: community leaders, friends, artists, siblings, pets. Each one hurts so different. The compounding grief has torn my heart apart in ways I didn’t know I could break. The ocean is where I go for peace and rest. My last trip home in January I wrote Alice, Patty and Jay’s name. I hesitated in writing Jays name because it still doesn’t feel real that he’s gone. I keep waiting to get a call from him. But when I did write his name and took a video, I looked back and noticed there still was a trace of his name in the sand. The wave that washes over his name erased most of the physical evidence of what I wrote but there was a hint of it left. It felt like a reminder that just because we’re not together in the physical space doesn’t mean you’re gone from me spiritually. I keep trying to find all of my loved ones who have died. Sometimes I see them in red poppies, dragonflies, feathers, or even their name. But it’s never a replacement for you. If you haven’t heard from me or if I owe you a txt back please be gentle with me. I’m trying to figure out our new normal and it’s disorienting as fuck. Love you all! by @ricearosie

Somehow time keeps passing even if our worlds have stopped. We are doing what we can day by day. But honestly, we’re struggling. The support of our community has truly been amazing and we feel all of the love. Weston has decided to take the time he needs to grieve, process what a life without Gordon will look like and still grow into his new role of being a priest and community leader. I personally haven’t taken this much time off work in a long time. But the compounding grief has finally caught up with me and I’m completely undone. I cannot continue to give when my well is dry. We both have been practicing receiving support, food, love and money from our community. All of this feels impossible AND we still live under capitalism. Rent is still due, pets need food, credit cards need to get paid down and all while grieving. We are asking for continued support and are grateful for everything thus far. Please donate or share, whatever you can manage is always appreciated. Link is on my profile bio. With deep love, Rosemary & Weston ā¤ļøšŸ«¶šŸ»Thank you million for our beloved Charis who’s helping us organize this fundraiser. by @ricearosie

Our motto right now is ā€œdo it cryingā€. Go outside once a day, be in water, snuggle longer than you should, eat delicious soup. All crying 😭 by @ricearosie

My sweet baby Big Sir suddenly left us today. He’s been struggling with chronic bladder issues and ultimately we couldn’t do any more to save him without him suffering. These two weeks have been absolutely impossible. The compounding grief has me all the way undone. I simply cannot handle anything else šŸ’”We have already been held by our beautiful community. This is just too much for us to do alone. Thank you to everyone who has held us so far. Our grief journey is just beginning. My naps will never be the same. Big Sir, my man, chonky boy, smelly pee pee boy I will love you forever. I wish you could lick my eyebrow one last time. by @ricearosie

For the last 10 days I’ve been living in grief time. If you’ve not grieved before it goes a little something like this. You learn someone close to you dies and the entire world stops moving. All priorities have shifted and nothing else matters except what is right in front of you. You stop measuring your days because it feels a little like jet lag. Part of your body mind is stuck in the before times, before your loved one died. Then there’s after. And lots of firsts. You measure time by the meals you finally eat, the hours you sleep badly and naps in between. Grief is also a reminder of who your real friends are. Thank you to all who have reached out and offered support. šŸ’šŸ’”šŸ«‚Nothing will ever be the same and now we adjust to the new normal. We are taking turns being broken and holding each other. We will get through this but not alone. The compounding grief I’ve experienced in the last calendar year is too much. It’s all too much. I will be away for a while to attempt to process this new normal. I love you all. by @ricearosie

Last Monday, May 11th, Rosemary’s husband Weston suddenly and tragically lost his best friend and twin brother Gordon. We are all absolutely heartbroken and will need the help of our community to get us through this tough time. If you live in the Bay Area and want to support us, please go to @ricearosie ā€˜s biĆø to sign up to help with meals, dog walking, and chores. If you want to support from afar, send food delivery gift cards or relief funds to Rosemary’s VenmĆ²ā€¼ļøWe ask that you please do not DM Rosemary at this timeā€¼ļø, instead reach out to Anna or Vinny whose info can be found in the meal train document. Thank you so much and much love to you all šŸ«‚ by @ricearosie

As we mourn the impossible sudden loss of Gordon, we are planning to celebrate his life the way he would have wanted. Please join us on Saturday May 16th from 2-6pm at Zillicoah Beer Co in Asheville. Gordon would hate to see us sad in black, so please wear his favorite color purple or a bright color of your choosing. We will share words from the family and there will be food available on-site. While we have no idea what our future looks like without Gordon, we know that we’ll only be able to weather this together. If you cannot travel to Asheville or are not local we ask that you remember Gordon in your own way. Go on a nature walk, make something beautiful with your hands or light a candle. by @ricearosie

Edit: Beloved friends,This is the hardest writing assignment I have ever been given. My nightmare has become a reality. On Monday night, my twin brother and the hope of my life, Gordon Duncan Morris, breathed his last.He died of natural causes and was surrounded by loved ones until the very end. I want to thank mywife Rosemary for holding me through this impossible pain, my parents, Margo and George, forfacing this tragedy with love and bravery, and Graycn Davis, the love of Gordon’s life and my sister, for loving him as much as I do and showing him that every single day.To all who knew him, I know your heart breaks reading this message. Trust me that your brokenheart joins countless others. There are no words, no combination of words, that can fully expressthe sorrow, the tragedy, that is Gordon’s death. We do not know how we will make it through thispain, but we know that we will. If I had to guess, I’d say the way forward is together. This is true forus all.We will hold a memorial service for him in Asheville, NC, on Saturday, May 16th or Sunday, May 17th(time and place TBD). All are invited to come to the party of his life and are encouraged to wearpurple. The time and location of the celebration will be sharedIf I can ask anything of you, it is this:Love the people you are with while you are with them. Tell them you loved them every time you hangup the phone.I love you all. by @ricearosie

One week later and I finally have spoons to share how our last mutual aid swap went. We received donations leading up to Saturday but received double the donations we expected. Items kept being brought in and as soon as something was dropped off, someone else took it home with them. I heard one person on the phone say ā€œthey have everything under the sun here!ā€ And she wasn’t wrong! It was lovely to meet more neighbors and connect with folks who want to host their own free event. We got a lot of questions about who we are and why we were doing the swap. I answered and said ā€œwe have everything we need. All we have to do is share it!ā€ @vinnydcomix and I were dreaming this event for months but none of it would’ve come true without YOU showing up. We’ve already gotten questions about the next swap and our answer is the same as last time. We are queer disabled trans organizers trying to survive these times. We will host another event but we first need to rest. If anyone is looking or waiting for a sign to start organizing in your local area, this is it!! I have lots of people to thank including all of our volunteers, friends who cross posted on socials, neighbors who brought donations and community members for coming!! Special shout out to @chumanityc, @questhousehealing and @onefreecommunity @disabilityjusticecultureclub for helping offer more resources at our event.
