there’s 40 days until Deadlock so please look upon these 4 gorgeous character portraits 👁️🫦👁️

the art is by @riceball.annie and when @simonteen showed these to me I actually think I collapsed where I stood. it’s the perfect way to count down to when we next see Lia, Kieren, Nik, and Eirale (slide 2, 3, 4, 5 respectively) in Deadlock and I’m so excited for you to read this next instalment

if you are at NYCC, you can grab these as physical art prints from the S&S booth through the duration of the show, while supplies last!!! and if you’re not there (like me) there will also be a chance in the future… wink… by @riceball.annie

The Aftg x HR crossover is still in development, I promise!!! But I've been quite busy with moving back home after uni and a few commissions so my progress has slowed down a bit... Instead, I thought it'd be interesting to maybe show a bit of the development of the self-directed Heated Rivalry cover I made a while ago!

Also: I actually did reference real ice hockey players like Macklin Celebrini, Sidney Crosby, Cale Makar etc. for the poses since I did want to keep them somewhat accurate to reality! The stadium is a mix of different ice hockey stadiums in real life that I referenced like the San Jose Sharks SAP Center, the Toronto Maple Leafs' Scotiabank Arena, and the Montréal Canadiens' Centre Bell!

And just like that, 3 years of university come to an end!!

I had the absolute pleasure to exhibit my work at New Designers for the past week. Ranging from the overlay illustration for @thechloegong's Coldwire, to the reversible dust jacket I illustrated for @owlcrate's special edition for Kayla Edwards "City of Gods and Monsters", as well as my own self-authored webtoon - it was just so incredibly exciting to share all of the projects I took on for my final year with the public and chat with everyone who visited!

A special thanks to my lecturers @louxbird11, @zlysbeth and @christopher_gibbs for guiding me for these past 3 years and helping to shape me into the illustrator I am now!

And to all of my dear friends who have so so so much talent:

I wanted to see how my Heated Rivalry Cover would look like as a real cover, so I made a mock up!

This is not an official cover, but only a passion project for @rachelreidwrites's Heated Rivalry

(NOT OFFICIAL) Book Cover Illustration for "Heated Rivalry" by @rachelreidwrites

So happy to have this ready for Pride Month!!!! This is my first time delving into the Contemporary Romance/Sports genre since I usually stick to Fantasy/Romantasy, but I wanted to challenge myself with something I wasn't familiar with! And since I love the series, I figured this would be a great opportunity for me to play around with my own interpretation of the book cover, drawing inspiration from both the book and the series!

I started with a rough idea for the narrative I wanted to convey: highlighting Shane and Ilya's relationship. The crossed ice hockey stick symbolise their public rivalry which is the first thing audiences in this world would pay attention to, but I posed their upper bodies to subtely shape a heart - a hint to their hidden feelings that the public isn't privy to. The back cover is stylised to resemble their phone messages, their main form of communication of the years. The chat background consists of symbols that tie into the narrative, like their hotel keys.

My main focus were to merge atmospheric colours with a dynamic, action-focused perspective!

Swipe to see the process of the Reversible Dust Jacket for @owlcrate's edition of City of Gods and Monsters by @kaylaedwardsauthor!

It's kind of insane to look back at the intial sketches and see how the illustration gradually developed, so I thought it'd be interesting to share with everyone😆

Loren Calla and Darien Cassel in ✨️City of Gods and Monsters✨️ by @kaylaedwardsauthor

So so so excited to be finally able to share the reversible dust jacket I illustrated for @owlcrate's April romantasy book box! Thank you so much again for trusting me with this!!

This illustration was such a challenge because I had close to no experience with drawing backgrounds but I'm so incredibly happy with the end result😆 I hope that I was able to do Loren and Darien justice and bring them to life for all the readers who have spent so much time accompanying and loving these characters!!

'Anathema' is an urban fantasy webtoon that is part of my Final Major Project in BA Illustration, drawing inspiration from Western and Asian influences within the worldbuilding and characters to mirror my own Asian diasporic identity. I experimented with atmospheric colours and exaggerated perspectives while combining traditional inking for the linework and a digital colouring process.

Originally, I intended to self-publish my webtoon for which this cover was created, but I'm still not entirely satisfied with how the finalised panels and character designs look... so this is still a work progress!

It's a really strange feeling to have submitted all of my university projects for grading and thinking about my upcoming graduation - but that finally leaves me with a lot more time to start my own self-directed projects!!!

Working on my webtoon cover👀

It's a reworked version of last year's attempt but I wasn't happy enough with my work to actually publish it😭So I spent some time editing character designs, changing the story, and improving my artistic skills, so I hope you guys are curious about what I've been up to!

I thought it'd be interesting to share more work in progress updates since I would go MIA otherwise if I were to wait every time until I have finished artwork. So here you have me inking traditionally??? Happens once in a blue moon🤭 But I'm absolutely loving how the textures ended up looking!!

Secret project reveal🤭I know I went MIA for a while and now I can finally talk about the reason for it!

I had the honour of drawing this overlay illustration for the lovely @thechloegong and her street team supporting the launch of Coldwire! It was so much fun going back and forth on different iterations and working out the colours, so I'm super excited to be able to share the process in my upcoming posts!

Thanks again so much, Chloe, for the absolutely best experience and I hope that the street team will adore the illustration as much as I do!
