Print of the week “Adelita”. Here’s the back story:

A few years ago, I was reading about the Mexican Revolution. Everyone knows about Pancho Villa and Zapata, but it was the Adelitas that fascinated me. I wanted to create a piece that honored them for their courage, resilience, strength and determination. My research led to the details seen here, including the Winchester styled rifle she is holding. It was enjoyable working on this historically themed painting.

Print of the week!

For this piece, Richard wanted to portray these three Mexican icons as calaveras. Let’s take a look at each one.

First, the Mariachi. You know, the one that you see performing at festivals and also at your abuelita’s birthday party. His music not only reaches the soul, it breaks barriers. Secondly, we have El Catrin. Always dapper and elegant, this distinguished gentleman represents remembrance, heritage, and the timeless celebration of life. Finally, there’s the Ranchero. We all know one; there’s probably one in your family. His sombrero is a symbol of hard work, pride and that of a provider.
