For a long time, I was scared to trust my own decisions. After getting out of prison, being on probation, and trying to live up to everyone else’s expectations of who I was supposed to be and become, I slowly lost the confidence to just live my own life.

I became so worried about making the wrong decisions that I stopped making decisions for myself altogether. And only tried to make the decisions to make other peoples approval.

And somewhere along the way, I forgot what it felt like to just enjoy being alive.

I spent so much time convincing myself I needed to work harder, accomplish more, and get further ahead before I deserved to enjoy anything. Because I had lost everything and left so behind in life because of where is was at currently.

But lately I’ve been asking myself… When will I ever feel ready?

There’s always going to be more work to do. More goals to chase. More responsibilities waiting for me.

And I’m finally realizing that enjoying my life doesn’t mean I’m losing focus on building it.

Sometimes getting away, experiencing something new, and doing the things that make me happy are exactly what I need to come back even more motivated.

I’m still learning to trust myself. Still learning that I don’t need everyone’s approval to make a decision. And still learning that I can be responsible for my future without being afraid to enjoy my present.

I worked too hard to get my life back just to spend it being afraid to live it.
