Three years ago, I honestly couldn’t even imagine a future for myself.

I lost my dream of becoming a doctor, completely spiraled in my classes, dropped to a 2.0 GPA, and ended up as a failed biology major with no real direction.

For a while, I felt like a total failure, and I let that frustration spill over onto the people around me.

I don’t remember the exact moment I decided to change, but I knew deep down that I loved myself too much to keep living like that.

Change isn’t comfortable. It means taking responsibility for the hole you put yourself in and climbing out of it one decision at a time.

Looking back now, I wish I loved myself more. I cared more about earning other people’s acceptance than my own. It wasn’t until this year that I realized I had both.

Today, I can finally say I’m proud of myself. Not because everything is perfect, but because I kept choosing to become someone I could be proud of.

There’ll be days when we might feel as though we’re drowning from the stress and pressure of our responsibilities. When those days do come, let’s remember who we are, take a deep breathe, and try dancing in the rain.

I filmed this back in January, and now it’s August. Time has definitely flew by, but I’m glad I’ve gotten to share this at such a good time in my journey. I dream of becoming a creative director one day, and I know the concepts and direction I’m taking will lead me there. Special thank you to my friends Wendy and Cj for helping me bring this to life. Especially Cj for helping me choreograph when I was extremely sick. To Nikko for helping us finish this up. And my big bro Emil for what’s maybe our last project for a while, as he’s doing big things.

3rd Year at @offstagebygrv
2 Years of Exhibition
1st Time Competing

I can’t accurately describe how transformative this past month has been, because words don’t do it justice.

Exhaustion. Setbacks. Constant changes. Countless moments of asking myself,

“Is any of this worth it? It’s just a dance competition. No one will give a fuck what happens a week from now.”

But then I started thinking…

Do other people have to care about what you love for it to matter? Is validation necessary for something to hold meaning?

Personally, I learned that it’s up to us to place meaning into the things we do. That’s how we grow.

One thing I also learned from this team is that we all shared an unspoken trait: grit.

I honestly can’t recommend this experience to anyone who lacks it. You’re going to be pushed to a mental limit you didn’t know was possible.

What standards do you hold yourself to? What kind of person do you want to become? Do you really want to win?

Because when your body wants to quit, your mind has to remind you that this was your decision.

You wanted this.

It’s not always fun. It’s not always enjoyable. But it’s necessary.

To @ivxnparedes & @davidlimberlake , thank you for your vision, your direction, and for believing in us. You took a team that had spent years in exhibition and gave us and the incredible added cast the opportunity to prove ourselves.
