April 23, 2026 | Opening night on Broadway— @rockyhorrorbway Be still, my freaky little queer heart!!! Last night was an evening of absolutely ridiculous fun, heart, rock ‘n’ roll, and QUEER JOY! I am so deeply proud to be part of this community and even more proud to celebrate the highly nuanced, brilliantly stylized, and f*ckin’ SEXY work of my dear iconic friends—@annjamesintimacy (intimacy coordinator), @saboralbee (hair and wig supervisor), and the genius himself— @pamstinkleton (director). Of course, it wouldn’t be a night out on Broadway without running into cherished friends and collaborators (#christopherashley @iamkennyleon @gimbalator @wearenoisemaker), iconic @cmudrama alumni (@theebillyporter @heyheyandyk), and my sis-from-another-miss ANNA WINTOUR. It would be remiss of me not to acknowledge and honor that The Rocky Horror Show and its film adaptation have been such a formative part of my journey as an artist and human being. This piece show made the insecure and unsure queer teen version of myself feel seen, validated, and a little less weird. It is also not lost on me that last night’s performance was at Studio54, where I made my Broadway debut 22 years ago. It was a beautiful evening and truly uplifting & validating on so many levels. It’s been a really challenging couple of weeks. Heavy in ways I’m still processing. But there have also been some pretty wonderful bright spots—and I’m trying to hold onto those, too. A beautiful night at the @culturaltrust Gala & Icon Awards, celebrating the artists and leaders who make this city so special. I’m continually inspired by the community here and by how deeply we show up for one another. A fantastic check-in with the Mellon Foundation about @centerfornewwork. Sometimes you’re so busy doing the work that you forget to look up and see how far you’ve come. I’m floored by what @brannon.bowers & I have already built—and incredibly excited about where we’re going in our second season. I also met with some of our @cmudrama senior actors (@theonlycatch & @yinraquino) who are creating an AAPI Student Theatre Organization. This one means a lot. Growing up and throughout my own education, I rarely saw AAPI people in the room—and certainly not professors who shared that part of my lived experience. I’m so proud of these students, and proud to lead a program where there are enough AAPI artists to find one another, build community, and create together. I’m grateful to see that tide changing for all the identities that make up our shared spaces. (CALLING ALL AAPI THEATRE MAFIA IN THE INDUSTRY: I’d love for you to help by supporting these young artists through your generosity of time, spirit, expertise, and treasure. DM me to get involved. Xo) And finally, some time making music with our first-year and sophomore Musical Theatre students for @carnegiemellon’s Constitution Day— including sharing “Wavesong” from @huntersthompsonmusical by @mrjoeiconis, a show and song very close to my heart. Hearing it in their voices (on my vocal arrangement) was a gift. It’s been heavy… but I’m grateful that there is still art being made, community being built, young people finding their voices, and plenty to look forward to. Another trip around the sun. THIS is 44. I’m taking a moment today to look back…At the people. The places. The shows. The classrooms. The ridiculous adventures. The things we made. The things that worked. The things that absolutely did not. There is a lot of life in these pictures. Family I love beyond measure. Friendships that have carried me through entire eras. Artists, collaborators, and students who remind me why I love what I do. Pittsburgh. New York. London. Chicago. Los Angeles. DC. Edinburgh. Stages and rehearsal rooms. Airports and late nights. Big swings. A whole lot of laughter. And love… In more forms than I once knew my life could hold. This year asked me to know myself better. To love myself more fully. To be braver about who I am. And to accept that life doesn’t have to look exactly the way I once imagined it would to be pretty fucking beautiful. Looking at these photos, I know one thing: I have lived. I have loved. An impromptu family weekend in Toronto. 🇨🇦❤️ @twe.superstar has been asking for a while if we could go see all of the Toronto sites from the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels, anime & film… so, we did. And, of course, we brought his bestie @judahzimmer along for the pilgrimage—or, as I have now decided to call it, our SCOTT PILGIMAGE. We wandered all over the city tracking down Scott Pilgrim locations, climbed the Casa Loma steps, hit record stores (@sonicboommusic obvi) and vintage shops, ate VERY well, explored a bunch of Toronto, and generally let the boys nerd out over all things Scott Pilgrim. @greyesmir and I happily came along for the ride. 😂 It was one of those weekends that came together pretty spontaneously and ended up being exactly what I needed: great food, lots of walking, lots of laughing, family time, two teenage boys being wonderfully weird, and a few days away together with no real agenda beyond having FUN. And we are BACK! 🎭✨ The start of the 2026–27 academic year marks my 9th year on faculty at @cmudrama, my 5th year as Chair of the Acting & Music Theater Program, and my 2nd year as Co-Artistic Director & Founder of the CMU @centerfornewwork. Somehow, the beginning of a new year never gets less exciting. There is something pretty extraordinary about getting to come to work every day surrounded by brilliant young artists, world-class expert faculty, and colleagues who care deeply about the future of our field. At a moment when the performing arts continue to evolve, challenge us, and ask big questions about what comes next, this place is a daily reminder that the future is VERY bright. Our Acting/MT faculty have already been hard at work—continuing to examine, question, and evolve our curriculum so that we are preparing our students not simply for the industry as it exists today, but for the one they will help create tomorrow. We’ve welcomed our newest Actors & MTs—the Class of 2030 (!!)—the halls are filling back up, and @carnegiemellon is getting ready to launch into the fall semester on Monday. New students. New work. And just like that… three weeks in Scotland, a run of MIDSUMMER!, and the inaugural season of the @centerfornewwork are in the books. 🥹🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿✨ There really is nothing quite like the @edfringe. Three weeks surrounded by artists from all over the world—seeing theatre, making theatre, wandering Edinburgh, eating and drinking VERY well, laughing a lot, and getting to share all of it with people I adore. Not a bad way to spend August. Bringing MIDSUMMER! to the Fringe with @playonshakespeare was a pretty wonderful way to close out the Center’s first season. What started as an idea about creating more opportunities for new work, collaboration, and meaningful connections between our @cmudrama students and the professional field somehow brought us all the way to Scotland. Mostly, I leave feeling incredibly grateful for the people who made it happen—to our partners at @playonshakespeare; our Center family @brannonbowers and @annahanson; our wonderful collaborators @jeffwhitty @kimweild lucasfedele @randykovitz; and this truly fantastic group of young artists who worked hard, took care of one another, embraced the adventure, and represented @cmudrama beautifully. We made a new play. We took it across an ocean. We did the Fringe. And somewhere in there, we made a whole lot of memories. London night out!!! 🇬🇧✨ A lovely dinner with @sarayao00 @jyowser & @ethanyao02, followed by a trip to the @barbicancentre to watch two dear friends, @tellyleung and @itspaolomontalban, absolutely LIGHT IT UP in @deathnotethemusical. 💀📓🔥 Such a joy seeing these two brilliant humans doing their thing in this thrilling new West End musical by Frank Wildhorn. And somehow, impossibly, 22 YEARS AGO the three of us were sharing a Broadway stage together. TWENTY. TWO. YEARS. Rude. Offensive. I reject the math. 😂 But what a gift to still be here—making art, cheering each other on, laughing a lot, and getting to watch old friends continue to shine. A casual little 36-hour London side quest because apparently @edfringe wasn’t enough stimulation. 🇬🇧😂 A couple meetings. Some aggressively unnecessary shopping. Great food. Drinks. And the beautiful Off-West End production of @cyclone_musical last night. 🎭❤️ More theatre tonight!!! London remains one of my absolute favorite places in the world. The theatre. The energy.
