Σε αυτό το επεισόδιο της σειράς GREECE IN CONTEXT, o Ρικ Λόου, καλλιτέχνης με έδρα το Χιούστον, επισκέφθηκε για πρώτη φορά την Ελλάδα με αφορμή τη documenta 14, όπου συμμετείχε με το «κοινωνικό γλυπτό» Victoria Square Project και αργότερα, σε συνεργασία με το Μουσείο Μπενάκη, συνέδεσε τους πίνακές του με αντικείμενα από τη συλλογή του. Επέλεξε ως κεντρικό του αντικείμενο την ταπεινή κασέλα, την οποία αντιλαμβάνεται ως έναν κινητό φορέα μνήμης και ταυτότητας, συνδεδεμένο με ιστορίες μετακίνησης, μετανάστευσης και κοινωνικής τάξης.

💡 Η σειρά GREECE IN CONTEXT αποτελείται από έντεκα επεισόδια σε ελληνικά και αγγλικά, γυρισμένα σε χώρους του Μουσείου, με αναφορές στην ιστορία και τον πολιτισμό της Ελλάδας. Κάθε επεισόδιο φιλοξενεί έναν προσκεκλημένο ομιλητή, ο οποίος καλείται να μοιραστεί τις απόψεις του, απαντώντας σε τέσσερα βασικά ερωτήματα που σχετίζονται με το έργο του και την προσωπική του προσέγγιση στον ελληνικό πολιτισμό.

In this episode of the GREECE IN CONTEXT series, Rick Lowe, a Houston-based artist, first came to Greece for Documenta 14 where he participated with the “social sculpture” Victoria Square Project and later, collaborating with the Benaki Museum, he paired his paintings with objects from the collection. He chose the humble kasela (wooden chest) as his key object, seeing it as a portable container of memory and identity, linked to histories of movement, migration and class.

💡 The GREECE IN CONTEXT series consists of eleven episodes in Greek and English, filmed within the Benaki Museum’s spaces, exploring aspects of Greek history and culture. Each episode hosts a guest speaker invited to share their views by responding to four central questions related to their work and their understanding of Greek culture.

From the Visions2030 Imaginator Start-Up initiative in 2021, Houston-based artist and community organizer Rick Lowe, founder of Project Row Houses, shared how art can transform communities. For over three decades, Rick Lowe has reshaped what it means to be an artist, weaving art into the lives, struggles, and dreams of communities.
