Chicago… thank you so much.

Chicago is my hometown, born and raised. And if you knew me as a kid, you’d know I had a stutter, ADD, dyslexia, and a learning disability. I failed 7th grade. Got kicked out of high school because I was too embarrassed to even speak up.

Fast forward many years later… I’ve worked prime time shifts at some of the biggest radio stations in the country; WBLS New York City, WGCI & KISS FM Chicago, V103 Atlanta, HOT 105 & 99 JAMZ Miami, and the defunct 100.3 JAMZ Dallas. Even had a nationally syndicated show heard simultaneously on radio stations worldwide. My voice has been heard on ABC, ESPN, BET just to name a few, and have been heard by over 250 million people monthly around the world.

That’s nothing but God.

For the last 4 years, I had been quietly hosting the midday show (10a-2p) in my hometown on 104.3 Jams Chicago. About a month ago, they flipped the switch to all sports which meant the entire station was dissolved.

But here’s the thing about Chicago… this city has always been good to me. While I was the midday host on 104.3 Jams, I was also the voice on Chicago’s Sports Radio 670 The Score. So when 104.3 Jams made the switch, they became 104.3 The Score. Which means my voice that was on 670… is now on 104.3.

No one thought a kid with a stutter, dyslexia, ADD and a learning disability would have a successful career in voiceover & radio, then eventually inducted into the national Black Radio Hall of Fame.

After 40+ years in the Radio industry, I’ve always been fascinated with what The Voice can do.

I’ve challenged my voice across every style and have had huge success in Voiceover, spanning nearly every genre imaginable. And in these last few years, Rick Party’s Notebook landed my voice exactly where it needed to be… My natural speaking voice.

It was only fitting that I settled into The Sweet Spot… a place where lovers live.

It was around 4:15 in the morning at LaGuardia Airport, leaving New York City after a weekend full of promise. I’m standing at Greenleaf’s, waiting on my panini with egg whites, tomato, turkey, and avocado. I turn around, and look who it is. Dr. Cornel West!

A philosopher, author, educator, and civil rights activist who’s taught at Harvard, Princeton, and Yale. The author of Race Matters, a man who has spent his life challenging injustice, speaking truth, and encouraging people to think beyond themselves.

So as he walked toward me, I reached out to shake his hand. This brother opened his arms wide and gave me a hug!

Thank you, Dr. West, for your years of service, for the countless students you’ve inspired around the world, and for reminding us that knowledge means something when you use it to help somebody else. by @rickparty.live

Put God first, and watch how everything starts to align. I feel like the richest man on earth, and it has everything to do with how I’m blessed to be a father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and mentor. Every role, every opportunity, every breath is a blessing.

B.E.P. (Bonnets, Eyelashes and Pajamas) That combination always goes together in the airport. Bonnets go with eyelashes more often than not, sometimes with pjs.

She fell in love with his ambition, but when the money disappeared, she started questioning the marriage.

Monica told her husband, “This isn’t the life I signed up for.”

His response? “Did you sign up for the life… or did you sign up for me?”

Now that’s a question!

He hadn’t stopped working, loving her, or being a good father. His bank account changed, but his character didn’t.

But what if he HAD stopped trying? Would she have been wrong to leave?

Tonight’s question: If your partner stops being what attracted you to them, is it wrong for you to leave?
