One of my favorite pictures from my last roll on the Konica Z-UP 140. That camera unfortunately broke after a drop disabled it's built in flash, though the camera still can produce great pictures in high ambient light settings. It limits it's use cases and forces you to be creative! This one was taken on a self timer just as the morning light hit our front doorstep. The camera (with Gold 200) cut out just enough light 🌞

Sunset Jazz on the Hudson with Trio Cachimbo 🌅

Marcus Persiani and @trio_cachimbo closed out the summer program of outdoor jazz shows for @jazzfoundationofamerica. It was a beautiful bookend to an incredibly event for summer for the foundation and @summeronthehudson + @riversideparknyc.

The Friday rush hour on the WSH to my right did little to disrupt the spacey salsa and Latin jazz grooves put forward by the bass/conga/keyboard group. On a solemn day of rememberance (never forget), this show felt like a joyful tribute to the city's persistence in enjoying the present and facing the future.

Mixed in some black and white shots as I left my camera on that mode from my previous shoot (s/o @1tevlanier), and I absolutely loved capturing the contrasts presented by the setting sun.

As I try to catch as many of the remaining outdoor performances across the city this fall, I'll look forward to next summer's programming. Can't wait!!

Jazz in the Garden w/ Justin Robinson and Noel Simone Wippler 🎷

Last Friday's performance in the beautiful @harlemrosegarden was among the final events of the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival, bringing musicians and community members together across the city in tribute to the legend Charlie "Bird" Parker.

Justin stepped in as a late replacement and held it down on a cool, humid evening, building up the anticipation for the evening show at Marcus Garvey Park just down the street. And Noel performed vocal renditions beautifully while keeping an eye on her eager son, who was also raring to sing!!

Thank you to everyone who put this event together, I am grateful to be able to experience such amazing art in an incredible space uptown.

Gina D'Soto, West Harlem Summer Jazz Festival ☀️

@ginadsoto and her band played a set of R&B and Latin originals and classic covers, both in English and Spanish. They were able to complete the groovy set just before the summer shower started, leaving attendees satisfied ahead of the rain 🎶

It is always great to see local organizations like @whaanyc and @harlemlatenightjazz partner to bring more music to the community. The West Harlem Summer Jazz Festival has been robust, though this was my first performance attended! 🥁

Introducing: Rick's Photography NYC 📸

Over the last 18 months, I've been steadily building up my freelance photography practice and business, and have partnered with some incredible people to capture their efforts, ideas, and special moments. It has been a beautiful journey full of growth, learning, and opportunity. 🚀

Moving forward, I'll be sharing more of this work here @ricksphotography.nyc. I will still be on @ricksfilmfolder of course, though this will help me organize some of my digital photography work for the world. 🌎

I had been meaning to do a bit of a self-portrait shoot to "launch" this account, but I think it's be better to just get the ball rolling, so enjoy one of my favorite photographs from a test shoot earlier this year. 🤓

A big thank you to all of the helpful photographers I've met along the way. I've almost always come away with a piece of knowledge about the craft that I've incorporated into my photography. 🤝🏼🙏🏻

Looking for an event or portrait photographer? Shoot me a DM/email! And don't forget to check out my portfolio. 🔗

Cheers,
Rick

From May: @reti_center's Infinite Mussel Party 🥘

Thank you to Nina and the RETI Center for letting me join them in their annual party to support their amazing sustainability work. The crowd was so lively and ready to kick off the summer with some incredible food, led by @vitormendesnyc, while enjoying the views from the @solaronenyc office. I was proud to photograph the room on film (eos 1n, Fujifilm 400, 50mm 1.8 and 85mm 1.2 lens), and thankful for @ohh_kayy_cee for allowing me to work the room as she captured the event with photo and video.

After taking a few pictures of the room, I decided to focus on getting a few portraits of the people making the event happen -- the staff and volunteers that helped make it a joyous night.

I love shooting events on digital, and would love to do more on film. If that piques your interest, hit me up!

From July: Club Cumbia at The Virgil 🪩

My first time seeing the guys @hellotones @1marvelito @mextape spin on the West Coast in LA. 🔥

Got some good low-light shots on my little pentax p&s with the great lighting at The Virgil, despite the small maximum aperture on it (f6.3). Tip: I lean on the sturdiest object near me when I'm shooting with no flash. Still a bit shaky, but I love the colors -- I'll take it. 📷

Pull up to Elsewhere on Aug 30 for the Club x Cumbia experience before the summer is out 💥 taken in The Virgil by @ricksfilmfolder

May Flowers 🌹

Roses and other types of flowers from a late Mat roll. Classic Fujifilm 400 on my eos 1n, 50mm. Handy dandy! 📷

Glad I caught these during their blooming season. I've grown such an appreciation for the flowers in the park and my neighbor. 🌟
