In the season finale of AI Avenue, I got to hang out and watch Fay cook.

Not only is she an incredibly inspiring builder, she also already has great wisdom in how to stick with it.

Come hang out!

The AI future is ours to decide.

On the AI Avenue season finale, we sit down with our biggest forward thinkers 🧠 out there. We sit down with Olivia Lanes from @IBM to talk about Quantum Computing which, honestly, seems like science fiction.

So then we chat with John P. Murphy, the VP of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association @sfwa_inc to see what has been predicted by our dreamers, and how we should be thinking about possible futures.

I get to sit down and chat with the incredibly thoughtful and inspiring Michelle Zatlyn @mzatlyn , president and Co-Founder of @cloudflare as she invites us to be a part of shaping what AI means for content creators.

And my buddy Sunil
@threepointone Pai drops some knowledge about AI agents that helps to explain where all this is heading.

And I believe that children are the future, so we spend some moments with a 9 year-old vibe coder/comedian Fay on her journey to using these tools she is inheriting.

All episodes, apps, and tutorials are available for you and everyone in your life who needs some wisdom and comfort about our AI future: https://aiavenue.show taken in Cloudflare by @rickyrobinett

ā€œWhat would happen if I stopped trying to hide?ā€

This was a question I asked myself a handful of years ago when I started to learn magic.

You see, I have essential tremors. Which basically means… I shake. Most noticeably in my hands.

It’s a condition I’ve had since I was a child, but there’s a specific moment etched into my brain that made me realize that I needed to do everything I could to hide my tremors. I was in middle school and it was my first year in band. In class, we had our first solo playing test and I was visibly shaking throughout my trombone performance. The kid in front of me was staring me in the eyes and mockingly shaking & flailing the entire time I played.

From that moment forward, I built habits that helped me limit how much people would see my hands and notice my tremors. A small example: when I’m at a meal, I rarely pick up a glass to drink – and only pick it up if I know it is heavy, and try to make it even heavier by filling it with ice.

For someone who doesn’t want people looking at their hands, magic might be at the top of the list of worst hobbies to pick up.

Over the weekend, I tried doing a couple new tricks for one of the largest audiences I’ve done magic for. Some folks in the audience knew about my tremors, some maybe just thought I was nervous. Regardless, I couldn’t hide from anyone at that moment the fact that I shake.

Magicians often call the moments they create for their audiences ā€œmiraclesā€. But in this moment, the miracle was as much for me as it was for the audience. Standing in front of a group of people and saying ā€œI’m not going to hide. You’re going to watch my shaky hands, and it’s going to be fun!ā€ is not something 11-year-old me sitting in the band room ever thought would be possible.

I want to say thank you to:
- @dougmckenzie: who has been generous as a friend, and mentor, in this journey.
- @greggyb and @ada_lovedog’s dad: for being companions in the journey of fumbling our way with a deck of cards.
- every single person who has watched me do bad magic as I’ve learned.

My first summer in Brooklyn, I got jumped by 3 dudes on my block. They threw me against a wall, and started beating me up. One guy was threatening me with a gun, another kept punching me in the face as hard as he could. I remember after around half a dozen punches starting to get disoriented and thinking ā€œthese guys may actually kill meā€.

It was a traumatizing experience but the moment I most distinctly remember is a guy walking by on the other side of the street who looked a lot like me — same age, same clothing style, better beard. We made eye contact, and his facial expression was ā€œwell, that sucks, glad it’s not meā€. He continued casually walking by.

I’ve been pretty quiet on social media (other than about Broadway!) and generally just behind on all things in life ten-times-over (so sorry if I owe you an email or text message!). But in the words of Dudley Malone in Suffs, ā€œI may not be a great man, but I am a man who upholds his vowsā€. Watching the presidential debate last night, I felt that I couldn’t casually walk by.

I’ve watched communities, churches and families broken apart by men who (like the former president):
- will never admit they’ve done something wrong.
- think they are entitled to say and do whatever they want.
- will lie without remorse.
- believe, despite their immense amounts of privilege, that they are the victims in our current society.

We often deceive ourselves into thinking that inaction is a way of ā€œstaying out of itā€ when these bad behaviors emerge in our communities. But inaction is an action and it has consequences. Inaction is a decision to endorse and allow bad behaviors to continue.

The guy who casually walked by me nearly two decades ago, he made a choice and that choice had consequences.

In the same way, we all have a choice. Yes, that’s partially about who is our next president and it’s obvious who I’m voting for. But the reality is that whatever happens on election day, things aren’t going to get better if our reaction when entitled men hurt someone is ā€œwell, that sucks, glad it’s not meā€ and we keep casually walking by. by @rickyrobinett

Incredibly inspired by my wife, @hannahrobinett.art, whose latest installation is on view at @affordableartfairnyc until Sunday.

ā€œIt’s about the processā€ is a mantra Hannah repeats and this piece encapsulates that in so many ways. In the lead up I saw Hannah not be limited by what she knew, but pushed by the vision she had. Learning new skills, and buying new power tools, along the way. I saw her filled with belief, and fighting through the risk of failure. Like she always does, she brought it all together at exactly the perfect moment. And the piece invites the viewer into the process, as they leave a part of themselves to bring the project to completion. It all comes together in what looks to be a delicate dance of vulnerability, patience and (of course) shredders. If you’re in nyc this week go check it out! by @rickyrobinett
