POSTS STORIES REELS

Richard Provencio (@ricpics.me), produces his art under the moniker Richard Richard Richards.

Something that has impressed me since I was first introduced to his work several years ago, when I heard him give a presentation about his practice, is how an anti-aesthetic is at work in his imagery.

Although each of his individual photographs depict paradoxical questions, small rebellions and forms of resistance—through the cumulative process of turning the pages through the sheer volume of images in his book—formal qualities regarding framing, references to his influences within the medium, and story structures begin to appear and calibrate in a very specific and personal vision.

Hello friends,

Dealing with some personal stuff right now and won’t be able to host this month’s online crit tomorrow night.

If you’ve ever been before you know [because I say it every month] that I look forward to crit night every month so I’m bummed to miss this one.

I plan to be back in November.

Thanks for understanding.

Sometimes you just need a win. I’ve had too many rejections to count this year and life has been a little extra lately so it really makes waking up to this interview on the front page of @lenscratch more welcome than ever.

THANK YOU SO MUCH to my dear friend @elliottlinwood1 for taking the time to interview me and write about my work and process and for helping me sound a lot less than the meandering fool that I feel like at times (hah!). Thank you to @amandadahlgren for making the connection between me and Elliott by letting me present to your class. Thank you to @alinesmithson for creating @lenscratch and giving us photographers a place to shine. And thank you to anyone and everyone who has supported me and my art over the years, family, friend, or fans. I am grateful to be here doing all the things.

Some pictures from Comicon.

To say Comicon is “not my scene” would be a lie based solely on the amount of storm troopers, Chewbacca’s, or Jawas among the crowds. However, seeing the amounts of endless lines to receive a worthless promotional toy or worse an opportunity to catch the glimpse of a celebrity did really dishearten me.

This year I had the opportunity to go shoot [Han] solo style pretty much all day Friday and my plan was to shoot 11-3ish then pick up my kiddo from camp drop them off at home and head back out until nightfall. However after only 4 hours of shooting, 5 miles of walking, and hanging out in the heat I’d decided I was “over it.”

It’s a weird time for me to reconcile the bad things that are happening that are beyond our control, and the things we subject ourselves to because it’s marketed as fun.

Nothing groundbreaking but it was kinda fun seeing the chaos up close. And it’s always nice to be outside and pressing the button. by @ricpics.me

Thank you to all the artists, our juror @cfodoreanu @mediumsandiego and my partner in crime @louiserussellj9 and everyone who came out during a very busy weekend for another great Present Tense!
