I’ve been carving out a space for creatives to hold the messiness of navigating our compromised neoliberal system when all we really desire is to practice and prioritize artistic exploration. After all, creative practice is what shapes our culture and the possibilities within it. So how do we contribute to this culture-making meaningfully when everything is fucked? Having these conversations with people helps. Making cool stuff before, during, and after helps too. Sojourner Truth once said “I sell the shadow to support the substance.” I can’t help but ask, in our current moment, how might we sell the shadow? 12.06.25 — Our last Gowanus Yearbook pop-up of 2025!We spent another beautiful afternoon at Gowanus Community Center and added 10+ new portraits. It was a great turnout despite the cold weather and we loved being alongside the many partners sharing resources today (shoutout @grandstsettlement !).Also, What Makes Gowanus, Gowanus? Clearly, the many artists in this neighborhood! We’re excited to add more of your beautiful drawings to the yearbook.This closes our pop-ups for 2025 but the Yearbook is far from done.
