Fresh look. Same easy ride. 🚌

DDOT is rolling out a new design for its fareboxes, and riders will begin noticing the upgrades on select coaches! 🙌

While the look is changing, your fare payment routine stays the same. Simply use the farebox as you always have and continue enjoying the ride! ✅

‼️ 💳 And remember: no double dipping! Dip your brand new bus pass just once to activate it, then swipe it on future rides until it expires.

DDOT remains committed to enhancing the rider experience and will continue working to bring these upgrades on board. by @rideddot

We’ve rounded up 10 City announcements that deserve a closer look, including projects underway, new resources, and investments that could make a difference in your neighborhood.

👀 How many of these did you know about? Swipe through. ➡️

Detroit saw significant reductions in crime this summer, including an 89% drop in youth homicides.

From June through August 2026, compared to the same period in 2025:

📉 Homicides decreased 25%
📉 Juvenile homicides decreased 89%
📉 Carjackings decreased 34.6%
📉 Nonfatal shootings decreased 9.4%
📉 Motor vehicle theft decreased 17.2%

The City’s 10-week Occupy the Summer initiative also reached approximately 15,000 young Detroiters, providing activities, recreation and opportunities to stay engaged.

Mayor Mary Sheffield and Police Chief Todd Bettison highlighted continued police enforcement, community violence intervention, and investments in youth programming as part of Detroit’s public safety strategy.

Mayor Sheffield and DDOT are working to install more than 200 new bus shelters and 200 benches across Detroit through 2027.

For Detroiters who depend on public transportation, that means more places to sit, more protection from Michigan’s unpredictable weather, and more comfortable waits at bus stops.

It’s part of the City’s continued investment in improving the everyday experience for DDOT riders.

More than 37,000 Detroit households are living in inadequate housing, and 43% of Detroiters report needing at least one major home repair.

On September 8, Mayor Sheffield signed an executive directive making home repair a major priority and establishing a more coordinated citywide strategy to help Detroit homeowners.

Heather Zygmontowicz has been appointed Senior Advisor on Home Repair and will lead efforts to bring together more than 30 organizations offering repair assistance, secure additional funding, and make it easier for residents to navigate available programs.

The goal is to help more Detroiters make critical repairs, remain in their homes, and protect the stability of our neighborhoods.

Mayor Sheffield announced a new five-point plan to improve housing conditions and bring thousands more rental properties into by @rideddot

Walk a Mile Wednesday 🚶‍♀️
Our outreach team participated in the final Walk a Mile Wednesday of the year. Held outside the Alternatives for Girls location on W. Grand Blvd., our transit ambassadors Kady and Angela were on site handing out DDOT resources. It has been great supporting @detroit_police and Chief Bettison on this initiative!

Through the busiest days, DDOT continues working to improve the transit experience for both riders and staff. 🚌

WHY DOES COUNT DAY MATTER?

Count Day is more than taking attendance. Count Day helps schools get an accurate picture of student enrollment and attendance, which can impact funding, resources and support for students throughout the school year.

So, Detroit, show up, get counted and make your presence matter. 🎒

Because every student counts. Every voice matters. Every day is an opportunity to rise higher.

It’s Shades of Pink Tuesday! 💕

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, City of Detroit employees were encouraged to wear pink today in recognition of those impacted by breast cancer and in support of survivors, fighters, and families. 🩷💪

Championed by Councilwoman At-Large Mary Waters @mw4us_detroit in partnership with @cityofdetroithr, our DDOT team showed up in their pink today! From administration to our teams at the terminals, we turned the department pink to show our collective support and stand together in the fight against breast cancer. 🎀
