You’re looking at a 100% Pure @paulcomponent crank.
But look closer – that spider didn’t grow up in Chico.

It’s from Jena in Germany. Made by @cyber.cycles , and if mixing brands is wrong, I don’t wanna be right.

The 110/74 BCD spider fits the Paul arms almost too perfectly – we’re talking 98% visual match. Unless you’re a machinist (or a jerk), you’d never notice.

What you will notice: you can now run a proper 2x. 46/30, 44/28, 42/26… whatever suits your knees and climbs.

It’s not a crime if it works. Probably.

pls don’t sue me for this.

🇺🇸: @meerglas_frameworks builds incredibly beautiful custom randonneur bikes. For me, one of THE highlights at @bespoked.cc. An absolute masterpiece!!

The pink bike is from a series production, which is somewhat more affordable than full custom, but still incredibly well-executed!!

i’ve been staring at this bike for a week trying to convince myself i’m not overpacking.

reader, i am ✨overpacking✨.

built up by @charliecvllr at @velomario_bern — steel frame from @karamba_frameworks , rim brakes, a little gold in the sun. you already know the bike. what’s new is what’s strapped to it.
shelter is a @durstongear x-dome 1+, sleep is a @thermarest neoloft and a @seatosummit spark pro. warm enough for alpine nights, light enough to forget it’s there.
rolling on @schwalbe rick xc tires this time — bigger, grippier, new touring cantilever brakes by @paulcomponent to make them fit. because good ideas sometimes require other good ideas. power from a @velogical dynamo, because riding into the dark should be an option, not a problem. navigation by the unkillable @coros dura.
flats handled by @dynaplug_official, @eclipsecycling tpu tubes, and the quiet confidence of @optimize.bike wax on the chain. @prestacycle torqratchet go lite keeps bolts honest. @daysaver multitool keeps everything else honest.
all of it disappears into @tailfincc bags.
kit is a mix of @albion_cc, @7meshindustries, @gorewear and @fizik_official — nothing fancy, just stuff that works.
the ricoh gr iv comes too. because some things deserve more than a phone camera.

bern → gruyères → col des mosses → drôme provençale → luberon → marseille.

got myself something new-new.
traveling by train or airplane with a normal bike always felt like playing on “hard mode” — random fees, no space, conductors with opinions, and that one guy who will absolutely drop his 50-lb suitcase onto your derailleur.

so I changed the rules: went for a bike that folds before anyone can say “no space.” the original tiny-wheel travel companion — the @bikefriday All-Packa. massive clearance, mounts everywhere, and a geometry that makes 20” wheels feel like a party trick.

built up by the talented @charliecvllr at @velomario — someone who actually makes every bolt feel intentional.

I specced it like something I want to drag through a decade or two of questionable travel decisions.
the star: a @rohloff_official hub out back, because I wanted a drivetrain that laughs at dirt, time, and careless strangers. also, I’m German — owning a Rohloff at least once in your life is basically cultural law.

wheels? bombproof. laced to the new @astralcycling Outback rims — gorgeous, sturdy in all the right ways, and conveniently located five minutes from the @bikefriday workshop. wrapped in @schwalbetires Smart Sam Cargo tires for maximum “I’ll ride anywhere, don’t ask” energy.

@paulcomponents Melvin + cranks to keep things honest.
@kmcchain holding the rhythm.
@chriskingbuzz for the headset and seat clamp — because smooth steering is a lifestyle.

saddle is the classic: @brooksengland B17 on a @binghambuilt Sweetpost, with welds so pretty you feel bad hiding them with a saddlebag.

power comes from a @son_nabendynamo hub paired with the @supernova_design M99 DY — a setup that basically promises you won’t die in a tunnel.

cockpit is an @sqlaboriginal 310 bar with extensions, finished with @ergonbike grips because comfort also counts as performance when you’re on 20” wheels.

bags: a mix of @tailfin.cc gear I’m testing and a few trusty @witslingers pieces from previous chaos-projects.

overall? feels ready.
first shakedown will be riding some parts of Badlands in Andalucía, Spain.
tiny wheels, big hopes — let’s see how this goes.

Been hanging out way too much at my local bikeshop lately — blame the new-bike build and all the dangerously nice stuff lying around. Spotted this adorable @allcitycycles rig hiding in the corner: @dtswiss hoops, @whisky_parts carbon fork, and a mischievous mix of @shimanoswitzerland bits. Up front, a @chriskingbuzz headset and @bikethomson stem make for a cockpit that’s pure jewelry — that spacer deserves its own applause 🫶🏻. Spins on a @wheelsmfg BB, too.

Size: medium-ish, personality: chaotic good.

Another year gone – and Bespoked already in the books.
A weekend of good chats, too much coffee, and the perfect dose of nerd talk about beautiful bikes.
Still smiling, still stoked.
Thanks @bespoked.cc @crank_communication @twotoneams @dear_susan_ for making it all happen 💫

Like last year, I stopped by to check in with the crew from @curvecycling — always curious to see what the Aussies bring to the show. And as expected, I wasn’t disappointed.

With room for 3.0” tires, this thing just looks like the overlanding vehicle of the bike world — basically the Toyota Land Cruiser on two wheels. This particular one was built up by the team at @guten_biken in Munich, and it’s such a clean and purposeful build. I’d probably never own a Land Cruiser… but I could definitely see myself owning a GMX+.

Rumor has it the next GMX might come with adjustable dropouts — ready for belt drives, Rohloffs, and whatever the future throws at it.

The second bike they brought was the 00 Kev — kind of like last year’s model, but with less titanium and more carbon. The lugs are 3D-printed titanium, the main tubes carbon — and together they make a seriously slick concept bike. The paint job? Spot on. The execution? Even better.

Would I own one? Maybe not — galvanic corrosion gives me nightmares — but Curve said they’ve been testing last year’s version for over a year now, and it’s still going strong.

Honestly, I just love what Curve is doing. Great bikes, great people — always a pleasure to chat with them. And yeah, I might really have to think about a GMX+ build in the future.

Bonus points if you know where the name 00 Kev comes from 🤠

Form, Farbe, Funktion – alles sitzt.

Flo and Tine are back with their brands @fern_bicycles, @allygn_components, and @gramm_tourpacking.
Fern bikes have always been my personal holy grail – reimagined randonneurs with just enough old-soul vibes to stay timeless.
Shape, color, function – nailed it. Add @allygn_components racks and the gorgeous @gramm_tourpacking bags (some of which live on my own bike 👀).
New this year: a clever rear setup to match their iconic front racks – smart, functional, and definitely not shouting “commuter”.
And because details matter: Allygn now makes matching taillights – fixed or mountable. Too good, I might need one myself 🤠

@bespoked.cc is back – and so is a little post spam. Let’s start with Konstantin from @drustcycles. His bikes already blew me away last year, even though I’d seen some of them online before. And this year, same story again: every single bike is truly (no exaggeration) unique in both form and function. Beautifully exposed fillet-brazed joints, a thoughtful choice of tubing – and just pure character. To me, his work embodies what this show is all about. I’m jealous of anyone lucky enough to own one of his frames!

There was a time when my saddle bag danced like nobody was watching.
Now… it doesn’t.

Three years with the Tailfin AeroPack — climbs, rain, and too many coffee stops later — the review’s up.
No PR fluff. Just miles.

Der Test ist online 👇

A saddle made with 3D printing and elastomer damping.
Sounds like a student project at first.
BikeYoke calls it the SAGMA 3D. I’ve ridden it for a couple of weeks — and was surprised by how little of it felt like a gimmick.

stopped by my local shop (@velomario_bern , keeper of many good things) and there it was — a @rodeolabs flaanimal 5.0, patiently waiting for its new human. couldn’t help myself, had to pull the camera out.

Japanese steel stitched with carbon, a frame that manages to look both timeless and oddly futuristic. @bikethomson post in raw titanium, @canecreekusa eeWings cranks that could double as medieval weaponry, @reneherse corkscrew climb treads ready to bite into alpine switchbacks. held together by a @chriskingbuzz headset that turns smoother than good wine, and hubs that sing the only freewheel hymn worth listening to.

you can tell when a bike was built on a schedule — and when it was built with care. this one’s the latter. it’s the sort of build that stops you mid-stride. modern but classic, simple but over-the-top. every pedal stroke a reminder: machines can have soul, too. taken in Bern, Switzerland by @rideintotheunknown
