The deadline to complete the 2026 Wavemaker Fellowship application is fast approaching! 🌊 Rhode Islanders working in the STEM, design, healthcare, or teaching fields are eligible to apply for the Wavemaker program to help defray the cost of student loans. Happy 4th of July from RIDE! 🎆 As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday today, we also want to take a moment to reflect on Rhode Island’s role as one of the original 13 colonies. Stephen Hopkins and William Ellery were delegates appointed by the Rhode Island General Assembly to sign the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Tomorrow is America's birthday, the adoption of the Declaration of Independence! 📜 #DidYouKnow? Rhode Island was the last of the original 13 states to ratify the United States Constitution. State leaders were concerned it would give too much power to the central government and limit states’ rights. But after growing pressure and the threat of a trade embargo, along with the promise of a Bill of Rights, Rhode Island officially ratified the Constitution in May of 1790.Students learn about Rhode Island government and the U.S. Constitution in grades 4, 5, 8, and high school. 📚 by @ridepted

Just two days until we celebrate America's 250th anniversary! 🎇 Here's another Rhode Island history fact:In July of 1780, General Rochambeau and French troops arrived in Newport to form an alliance with American forces. The following summer, Providence became a key hub for troops as a supply center (at the Market House), hospital site (at what is now Brown’s University Hall), and campsite (between present-day Westminster and Friendship streets).The army then marched through Rhode Island on its way to Virginia on what is now the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route. This journey led to the army’s union with George Washington and the decisive American victory at Yorktown in October of 1781.Rhode Island students learn about the American Revolution in grades 4, 5, and high school per RIDE’s Social Studies Standards. 📚 by @ridepted

Happy July! Just THREE DAYS to go until America's 250th birthday! 🎇 #DidYouKnow? During the American Revolution, British forces occupied Newport from 1776 to 1779. In late July 1778, French forces joined Continental troops under General John Sullivan, along with Generals Nathanael Greene and the Marquis de Lafayette, in a coordinated effort to retake Aquidneck Island. These plans were disrupted, however, when a hurricane damaged both the French and British fleets, forcing the French to withdraw to Boston for repairs. British forces then attacked near Portsmouth, where the 1st Rhode Island Regiment played a key role in the fighting, helping to push back against British advances.Although the Battle of Rhode Island ended without a clear victor, it marked the last major Revolutionary War battle fought in the North. Rhode Island students learn about the battle in grades 4, 5, and high school. 📚 by @ridepted
