Much gratitude to everyone who donated time and money to make this year’s Moving Day for the South Alabama Parkinson’s Foundation a success. Team “Robert’s Jokesters” took third place for fundraising, having raised over $3000. And the organization surpassed its goal for this year’s event, with close to $76,000 raised. Thank you so much for the support. 🙏🏾 #move4pd taken in Saad Healthcare by @ridesinraybans

We talk a lot about the importance of voting, but being an informed voter means understanding what you’re actually voting on when you get to the ballot box. For our next Civics & Conversation, we’re breaking down the ballot 𝐁𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐄 Election Day.

𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘵? 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘰? 𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯? 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘥𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺, 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘯𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘥, 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭𝘴, 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺?

Know Your Ballot is about education…not telling you who to vote for, but helping you better understand WHAT you’re voting for. Showing up is important, knowing what you’re showing up for is POWER. 💪🏽🗳️

Join us 𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 24𝐭𝐡 at Great Day Latte for another open conversation where questions are encouraged, information is shared, and we learn together.

🗺️ THE LINES ON THE MAP MATTER.

Who decides where district lines are drawn? How does redistricting shape political representation? And what happens when incarcerated populations are included in the numbers used to determine representation?

These are important civic questions that can have a direct impact on communities, neighborhoods, schools, resources, and elected leadership.

Join us Thursday, August 20th at 6PM for “Lines That Lead,” the next Civics & Conversation, where we’ll make redistricting easier to understand and explore how the lines that define our districts can influence the way communities are represented.

☕ Come curious. Bring your questions. Grab your favorite drink and be part of the conversation.

Because civic engagement starts with understanding. When we understand how the map is drawn, we better understand how representation works and how our voices fit into the bigger picture. 🧩🗳️

📍 Come learn. Come connect. Come be part of the conversation.

🚨 𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐓𝐏𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐃 🚨
Due to unforeseen reasons we will have to postpone tonight’s session. New date TBA.

🗺️ Who draws the lines that shape our communities? And why does it matter?

Join us Thursday, August 20th at 6PM for another Civics & Conversation as we explore “Lines That Lead,” an introductory discussion on redistricting and the impact of incarcerated populations on representation.

Many of the decisions that affect our neighborhoods, schools, and elected leaders begin with the lines on a map. This conversation is designed to help break down a complex topic into something everyone can understand, because an informed community is an empowered community.

☕ Grab your favorite drink, bring your questions, and join us for an evening of learning, conversation, and connection. We’re continuing to create space for conversations that strengthen our community. Because when we understand the map, we better understand our voice. 🧩🗳️

Special thanks to our community partner, @upliftmobile for supporting this important conversation.

Today is the anniversary of the signing of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Sixty-one years later, @postmodernegro reminds us of the organizing that led to that accomplishment, and that will be required to shape the future of Alabama and democracy. by @ridesinraybans

Tomorrow marks the anniversary of the signing of the Voting Rights Act. My home state of Alabama has always been at the center of the fight for democracy. Today, with the VRA essentially gutted, that fight is far from over.

In his reflection for our "Still We Count” series, @postmodernegro draws on the lessons of the past to imagine a different kind of South.

It publishes tomorrow. Subscribe today so you don't miss it.

YOU ARE INVITED…
𝐂𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐬 & 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐬. 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲.
Great Day Latte •Thurs, Jul 23rd 6 PM - 8PM

This is an 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐎 conversation designed to help us better understand civics, government, voting, and community engagement. No debates. No political theater. Just real information, real conversation, and practical knowledge about how government impacts our everyday lives.

We’ll talk about:
• How government is structured
• Different elections and why they matter
• Why local elections are just as important as national ones
• How policies can affect things like schools, healthcare, businesses, infrastructure, and even utility costs
• How we can become more informed, strategic, and engaged as a community

Whether you’re well-versed in civics or know little to nothing about it, this conversation is for 𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐎𝐅 𝐔𝐒. The goal isn’t to tell anyone what to think or who to vote for. The goal is to make sure we’re informed enough to make our own decisions with confidence.

Let’s learn together, ask questions, build community, and become more 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒈𝒊𝒄 about protecting our future. #GreatDayLatte #CoffeeShop #civics #fyp #vote by @ridesinraybans
