I keep getting questions about Giant Schnauzers as a breed and thought I’d write some of the common things that keep popping up 😄

Yes, they simply are THE best breed ever. Super smart, deeply loyal, majestetic, brave and always with the happy-go-lucky attitude. But, what goes behind all of that?

Big in size, yes I know they’re called giants. But this means, you need to be able to control an animal that is 30-50kg, who yet as a puppy (read: until 3yo) might not know how to act when excited and uses all of their power to pull you wherever they please. Their coats are a LOT of work, even if you get a correctly coated dog, they drag huge amounts of sand and dirt ESPECIALLY in their beards- to basically everywhere. The white walls in my entryway are constantly looking disgustingly not white, as that’s where the dogs excitedly greet me 🫣

They are sharp and they are prepared for defence. So as they’re growing up, one needs to be very black and white about the rules in which they absolutely need to follow. They will try to be the neighbourhood terror if given the opportunity to 👻

But why are they the best dogs ever? When you give them what they need in order to feel good about themselves, which I would say is a lot of exercise such as running freely, swimming, pulling, running besides a bike etc., mental stimulation and clear rules to their lives, keep their coat clean and most importantly: show the dog you appreciate and love them, Giants offer that unique soul-binding connection one can share with them, but they do not give anything without the work. The dual respect is needed in order to really bring out the best in these type of dogs 🫶🏼

I would also like to say that, I basically dedicate all of my free time for my dogs. I make it my life’s mission to offer them all kinds of exercise, they have hobbies in which they can fullfill their mental needs, I groom them regularly. So for one to see a well groomed shiny giant in a show, please know that is less than 1% of how they actually are in your life. My so called ”showdogs” have spent 4 days of this year in shows? Yeah you can choose an easier route if you want a dog for showing 🥴😂

Quite literally still can’t comprehend how stellar our WDS experience was this year 🥁🤧🥹 I’m so proud of how a young dog like her really worked with me throughout these hectic days, not caring about noises, changes in climate, cameras in her face, dogs lunging at her, list goes on and on.

I remember Sissi telling me she has a puppy with a character to die for; constant tail wagging, sassy eyes peeking from behind her eyebrows and the way she carried herself as a 8-week old chubby puppy, I couldn’t believe my eyes. ”She will not replace Diana, but I do believe you two are meant to be together” - wise words you hear at 2am in the middle of a cold stable when you for sure wasn’t going to buy a dog- definitely not a puppy. But, as you might know, one needs to listen to her when she says she knows, so I drove home with the picture perfect puppy in the back seat of my car 🙂‍↔️

Her character stole the show once again, she forever seems to think she owns every singe place she goes to. I simply can’t wait to see where our path together will lead to in the future, she feels like the missing piece of motivation, inspiration and intensity I was looking for in this world of dogs, and giants 🗺️🔭🌠

Truly thankful to all my friends and family for making this trip one for the books ❤️🥹 #stablemasters #giantschnauzer #worlddogshow #wds #showdog taken in BolognaFiere by @riesendiana
