POSTS STORIES REELS

The Justice for Sourour & Justice pour Tous•tes Committees travelled to London for the annual silent march of @uffcampaign on October 31, 2026. United Families and Friends Campaign is a coalition of families whose loved ones have died at the hands of the state, the police, in prisons and immigration detention centres, mental health units, care and homelessness services.

Together with families from the UK, France, Belgium, Switzerland and Germany, we walked in the sunshine from Trafalgar Square to 10 Downing Street, where a letter was delivered to Prime Minister Andy Burnham. About 15 family members took the microphone to share their stories and express feelings of pain, anger and hope. Together we denounced systemic racism and classism, deeply rooted in their colonial and capitalist history, but also the deep discrimination against neurodivergent people and people suffering from mental illness.

The struggle against state violence is an international question
because the similarities across countries are striking, almost copy-pasted from case to case: CCTV cameras that stop working for one day, deleted footage, claims that the victims died of suicide, lies and cover-ups.

But when families come together across nation-state borders, united in grief, they shine the strongest light of solidarity and love. Together we felt strong and we dared to imagine a society where we don’t live in the fear of loosing one more human being from state violence.

The Justice for Sourour and Justice pour Toustes Committees would like to express its strong gratitude to all UFFC members for the invitation and care, but also to volunteers, translators, stewards, journalists and everybody who joined. A special shout-out to Oluwatosin, @riggmarcia and @susan_alexander_artist. by @riggmarcia

Please support the United Families and Friends Campaign. No more deaths at the hands of the state. These families need Justice

On the 31st of October United Families and Friends Campaign March from Trafalgar Square to Downing Street in their annual procession.

The retelling of victims stories brought nearly the whole crowd to tears. It is always an emotional day but the weight of injustice felt heavier in light of the police changing laws so that police officers avoid consequences for their wrongdoing. They passed this law in particular to avoid taking any measures to avoid Martyn Blake taking accountability for the murder of Chris Kaba.

Whilst upsetting to hear accounts of police violence from so many new people joining together to fight the injustice and brutality people face at the hands of the police brings hope for a better and more just world. by @riggmarcia

Today, bereaved families held a silent procession to Downing Street to demand justice.

Led by the @uffcampaign, the bereaved families and supporters gathered at midday in Trafalgar Square before heading to Downing Street to hand deliver an open letter to Andy Burnham.

UFFC is a coalition of families whose loved ones have died because of violence, neglect, racism and discrimination within state institutions. This includes police, prisons and immigration detention centres, mental health units, care settings and homelessness services across the UK.

For over a quarter of a century, UFFC have been tirelessly campaigning but to date, no Prime Minister has agreed to meet UFFC representatives.

@riggmarcia, sister of Sean Rigg and organiser at UFFC, said on behalf of the campaign:

“No agent of the state is above the law, yet the British government who is ultimately responsible for these killings, continues to give them absolute impunity.

"This is illegal and immoral. Justice delayed, is justice denied, but the truth always prevails.”

Making the Invisible Visible: Black Women 365 Days of the Year is an exciting initiative led by Serendipity Institute for Black Arts and Heritage. Each day will showcase a different woman, whose story has shaped Black British or global Diasporic history; many of whom remain overlooked or under-celebrated in mainstream narratives. This will take the form of a rolling programme of short films, released throughout the year to keep these stories in daily circulation and to create an evolving constellation of leadership, resistance, artistry and enduring impact. by @riggmarcia

Celebrating 10 years of Black Thrive✊🏿🖤
It was a privilege to join friends, colleagues and community leaders to celebrate this important milestone and to reflect on just how far Black Thrive has travelled since its beginnings in Lambeth in 2016.

I was privileged to be part of those early years as the first Director of Black Thrive.

The roots of this work are deeply connected to the inequalities experienced by Black people in mental health services and to tragedies such as the death of Sean Rigg, alongside the courageous campaigning of his sister Marcia Rigg for justice, accountability and change.

A special acknowledgement to Dr Jacqui Dyer MBE, whose vision, determination and community leadership have been fundamental to Black Thrive, and to all the staff, board members, community partners and people with lived experience who have built and sustained this movement over the last decade.

Today, what started in Lambeth has grown into work across Lambeth, Haringey, Birmingham and now Wales. Black Thrive describes 2026 as the beginning of its next chapter as a national movement for community power and systems change.

It was also great to see the launch of Thriving Futures: Scaling Systems Change and the Black Man’s Toolkit continuing the work of putting Black lived experience, leadership and communities at the centre of change.

This is great news for Black mental health, racial equity and Black community leadership.

We must continue moving beyond simply asking Black communities to be resilient.

Our ambition must be greater:

From surviving to thriving.

Congratulations to everyone who has been part of the journey — and here's to the next 10 years. 🙏🏿

Today, we remember Sean Rigg, brother of @riggmarcia who died in police custody on August 21, 2008.

40 year old Sean Rigg was a musician and producer.

He died at Brixton police station on the evening of 21st August 2008. Sean, who suffered from schizophrenia, was arrested in Balham, London, while in the grip of a mental health crisis. He was restrained by police officers and held with pressure applied to his back and neck for seven minutes.

Sean Rigg died in Police custody in Brixton Police station 18yrs ago today. -Whilst no one has yet been charged, Marcia’s campaigning continues to bring about important changes. -Bigthanks to @its.laik1 for replanting these flowers & words . - This planter triggers an Augmented Reality Statue of Marcia Rigg to appear here via your phone*, occupying this little square (*using the App ‘AswarmXR’). She Breaths + Speaks, for she is very much alive, and like a sentinel warrior “not going anywhere!.“ - Info- see links Bio + www.aswarm.com , or scan the planter QR in Canterbury Square, #Brixton, #London .
- NB please do water & care for these flowers - it is a little garden of resistance. -When we installed this work in 2022, the MET chief attending said “This will serve as a reminder for my officers, that every time they leave this station and put on the uniform, they are carrying a history they need to be sensitive to.”. by @riggmarcia
