Sampson Julius Teune Riggle.
That’s his full name.
From our gotcha day in February 2013, he was our boy and the biggest joy in our life. He helped make our first house in Wisconsin, our first real home together.

He was, in almost every sense of the word, our child. Much more than a dog, anyone who met Sampson knew his smile, his ears-down tail-wagging approach, often leading to him smushing his head to your legs as his hug, and how he would immediately run to get the ball before even finishing that hello. Because you only came over to play with him, right? Right? Now throw the ball. Again.

This past Sunday, we had to make the difficult decision to end his pain and send him across the rainbow bridge. He was surrounded by his favorite things up to the very end. His blanket, his bed, Lays & Fritos chips, and of course — his ball. In his final moments, we held him close as he closed his eyes and went to sleep one final time. Mommy + Daddy + Sampson forever. 🐕

These words make it real. And this has been harder than we ever imagined it could be. He was nearly 13 years old; his birthday is next week. He’s had an amazing time on this planet with us.

We miss him. So very much. Thank you for all your kind words, and please share any memories you had with him.

Shoutout to Rich and The Suicide Machines, who wrote this amazing song and blessed us with permission to use it in Sampson’s tribute.
