Another great focus group for The Safe Stage today! 🎶🎥

This morning we were chatting with @righttrackmusicproject on all things Unsafe Work Environments in the music industry, exploring what makes young musicians feel safe, supported and confident in different spaces and situations.

Musician and facilitator @georgiamay.uk helped these young people share many brilliant conversations, experiences and ideas!

All of these discussions are helping to shape the youth-led video campaign that the young people will go on to create with @crewgalcreativehouse , raising awareness and helping to make the music industry a safer and more inclusive place for young musicians. 🙌🏻

And of course, we managed to squeeze in some live music too! 🎸🥁

The last young people focus group is this Wednesday 14th October 5-6.30pm @culturehousesunderland - looking at Informal and Exploitative Cultures taken in Arts Centre Washington by @righttrackmusicproject

Are you aged 18–25 (or 18-30 if you identify as disabled/neurodivergent) and involved in music, performing, gigging, producing, DJing, songwriting or working otherwise in the music industry.

We’re looking for young people from North Tyneside and Sunderland to be part of The Safe Stage Project – a new youth-led video campaign exploring safety, wellbeing and real-life experiences in the music industry.

Whether you’ve performed at gigs, worked behind the scenes, studied music, or are just starting your creative journey, we want to hear from you.

It was a pleasure to host performers from We Make Culture’s Young Musicians Project a few weeks ago as they played a collaborative gig with Arts Centre Washington’s very own Right Track project.

Thank you to Lewis Hill, Layla Mae, Coastal Roads, Aiko, Apricity and Shipyard Rejects for the incredible performances!

Right Track is a youth-led music project based at Arts Centre Washington, offering free, inclusive opportunities for young people to explore their creativity through music.

After an amazing summer exchange, @righttrackmusicproject and @youngmusiciansproject are teaming up once again for a mint gig at the @artscentrewashington on Friday 18th September!

A huge thanks to @laurarosierse of @llivelymusic for coming in to give an Event promotion Masterclass this afternoon. It was such a valuable insight into the local music scene and how we can produce our own events and build as artists.

🎶 YMP x Right Track Crossover 🎶

This summer, we’re bringing together @youngmusiciansproject and @righttrackmusicproject for a unique two-day collaboration, giving young musicians the chance to connect, create, and experience different music opportunities across Sunderland.

Across two exciting days, you’ll explore professional recording studios, collaborate on songwriting, take part in recording sessions, enjoy a singing workshop with Laura Taylor, record with Tony Brown, and much more!

📍 7th August, 10am–3pm: @artscentrewashington Recording Studio
📍 8th August, 10am–3pm: Field Music Studios

We had the best time last night at the @triviabanduk EP launch at Indie-P. 💕

Three brilliant young bands. All playing original music. All absolutely owning the stage. Putting on their own gig. Sunderland has some properly talented young musicians, and it feels like amazing things are starting to happen.

The gig also told the story of something bigger.

@weareapricityband came through @righttrackmusicproject and @musicconnectssunderland. @shipyardrejects.band through @youngmusiciansproject. @triviabanduk through @thebunkercic and YMP.

They’ve rehearsed at The Bunker, played early gigs at @poprecs, @independentlive_ and @artscentrewashington, and now Trivia have released their first EP with local legends @serialbowlrecords.

None of that happened because of one organisation. It happened because lots of people across the city have backed these young musicians at different points, shared opportunities and worked together. The bands have moved between projects, venues and studios, meeting different people and building their confidence along the way.

We were dead proud last night, and it felt like a celebration of all of that as much as anything else.

Last week a few of our Right Track artists ventured down to London and were given a tour of the Spotify HQ. The group had the opportunity to showcase their tracks and gained valuable feedback from the wonderful Meagan Cottone!

It was so great to learn more about @youthmusicuk and how we can access their support.
