POSTS STORIES REELS

So currently on Kickstarter is an interesting card driven RPG with boss battler called Dice and Dies by @rijagames.

The RPG campaign is solo and boy oh boy is the story interesting. Tom is 15 and has the usual issues with bullying but be careful what you wish for because wishing them dead kind of comes to fruition and he meets two Imajin who become spirit guides. He traverses his way through his story quest and dungeons galore until the final confrontation (did you think I was going to spoil the story for you? Ha!).

The battling mechanism which is using spirit points to play cards and deal damage, you can also roll to befriend the entities to join you as Imajin for the rest of the game. It can feel a lot to learn initially but there is a how to play guide in the first chapter.

Once you’ve managed this, you can also play with up to 4 of your friends as a boss battler game. Choose your difficulty, your hierophant character, your deck and battle away.

There’s a huge amount of cards, items, bosses and entities to battle (which are based on South American folklore with an anime art style) it will keep you going for a very long time.

It’s really interesting and not something I’ve encountered before but the prototype I’ve played was unfinished in parts of the guides in the book and does need a storage solution for the deck building and cards which is supposed to be added.

I’ve been loaned a copy of the game for review purposes but my opinions remain my own. by @rijagames

Next up on my #kickstarterwatch series is a game I’ve featured before and one that’s live right now and it’s - ‘Dice and Dies’ @rijagames

It’s hard to sum up the game in a few words as there really so many different ways you can actually play it - at its hearts it’s a card driven JRPG which can be embarked upon as a solo adventure or co-op with up to four players. It’s a boss battler with customisable difficulty and I was impressed by the sheer weight of content you get out of the box with hundreds of cards and variations giving the game a lot of replyability options!

You select a Hierophant to play as during the game and in solo mode you’ll be operating three of these and then you’ll assemble a 40 card deck that is going to drive to the game!

The storybook sets out the path the game will take and you’ll be encountering opponents with their own decks as you try and defeat the bosses with clever card play! The sheer volume of content and possible options here will have you coming back for more time and time again!

Dice and Dies by @rijagames is a combination of dice rolling and tactical combat. The number of heroes, abilities, enemies and difficulty levels provides almost endless replayability. By experimenting with different combinations of Hierophants, decks and opponents, you can tailor the challenge entirely to your own preferences.

In terms of gameplay, Dice and Dies mainly feels like a duelling game to us, similar to a collectible card game such as Magic: The Gathering, but as a solo experience. Essentially, you are battling against the game itself. Because of this, the core concept can sometimes feel somewhat aimless: you defeat enemies, but without a larger framework there is less motivation to keep playing. Fortunately, the campaign mode provides a solution. The campaign book gives meaning to the many encounters, creates a sense of progression and makes you more invested in the world and story.

Although the game can be played with multiple players, we felt that it truly shines as a solo experience. The focus is on taking on challenging battles and overcoming increasingly powerful opponents.

Dice and Dies will mainly appeal to players who enjoy challenging solo battles. The campaign mode also provides the necessary context and ensures that the many encounters feel more meaningful.

👉 This is a propotype, so changes are possible 😉 The complete review is on our website.

👇 The Kickstarter is planned for this week!

Been having a blast playtesting lately.

This is already like the third prototype of Dice and Dies, and seeing every component come together feels surreal. The gameplay is exactly like I originally envisioned when I first started planning the game back in 2022… or maybe 2023? Honestly, I can’t even remember anymore 😅

The best way I can describe it is like playing a JRPG with cards, which is exactly the feeling I wanted the game to have from the very beginning.

It’s been incredible watching the project slowly evolve into something real. Thanks to everyone following the journey so far!
