I arrived broken and lost, praying daily for God to restore me. Some days, I simply prayed for the strength to stay awake and focused. For over 40 days, working 17-hour shifts, I had the privilege of driving the teams, players, families, and FIFA executives. What a unique opportunity. I am forever grateful to all the amazing teams staff, players, and executives I met. Thank you to WTS for this opportunity. To the airport staff, first responders, practice field staff, stadium staff, and hotel staff—thank you for making my daily routine so enjoyable. To my Argentina team drivers who became family, my guest room is always open to you. KC friends I wish I had longer but the work came first. It was good to see some of you. Trigger warning: Suicide.
Lies told to me about me: You are a not a Christian & an alcoholic we will expose you, you are only doing social media at work, you are an embarrassment to Christian’s for having nude photos, you should’ve never been adopted and are an embarrassment, you owe the family an apology for all you have done to damage it, you can’t be trusted around men at the church because you will tempt them, you don’t deserve a better job because you aren’t that smart, you aren’t worthy or representing the university and this department look at your social media, you probably have some disease because I heard about you. Lies all lies none of them true but swirling in my head that day in 2008. Lies told about me and to my face none of it was true but I had no voice to defend myself, @crowder Oh How he loves came on my radio that day. I truly believe God saved my life and gave me the vision for @caridadlv when I had no hope. This is my story and this is the reason I am so committed to my cause. I truly feel this is a call on my life one that I have not yet been released from. I am thankful those voices & lies no longer swirl in my mind. I am still processing the tragedy of the shooting resulting in murder in the 18b Las Vegas Arts District last week outside of First Friday. As a neighbor to the area, I adore and have worked with so many artists, local shop owners, and the leadership of First Friday and the Arts District. To see this happen to our beloved downtown gem is heartbreaking.

This is an absolute tragedy. Corey and the First Friday team are a small nonprofit, and I don’t feel like they get enough credit for the major event they pull off each month. Sitting in these meetings monthly, I can attest that both First Friday and the Arts District have been proactive in trying to ensure safety at the event. Private security, the City of Las Vegas, City of Las Vegas Marshals, and LVMPD Downtown Area Command all assist each month. A curfew for juveniles has also been put in place. We discuss the dilemma we have each month about what to do with these kids who have no morals and just want a viral moment. How do we prevent bad things happening when they show up with guns?

Two key take aways:

1. Parents, you need to start parenting. We discuss this as I meet for work with educators, businesses, all five jurisdictions, and first responders. Your children are your responsibility. It is up to you to show them right from wrong, and to teach them that a TikTok trend or going viral shouldn’t be where they find their worth. Some of these juveniles have had multiple offenses with stolen guns before they are 16. Parents, in this day and age, sadly you can’t just trust a night out with friends. Know who your children’s friends are. Please, save your kids from a life of incarceration.

2. Support the businesses and First Friday. With paid parking and construction in the area, local artists and shops are already struggling to survive. Funny enough, I never wanted to attend EDC. But, then I got introduced to Artist Transpo and fell in love with the team. Now, I’ve officially wrapped my second year working it and I can’t wait to come back next year. Thank you Insomniac and the entire Artist Transpo team—it was another amazing weekend for the books even a sandstorm couldn’t stop us. So grateful for this team and the opportunity! 🫶🚌
