Growing up, there were several moments where not having enough left a deep mark.🌼🌼

One memory I’ll never forget was our basketball hoop.
We couldn’t afford a store-bought one, so my dad bought a fishing net and built a goal by hand so I would have a place to practice.

I loved playing, until the day my classmates saw it and started laughing.

The shame was overwhelming. In that moment, I was so mad at my dad.

I couldn’t see his effort.
All my child brain thought was:
Why did you make me look like this?
Why can’t we just be normal?

That day taught me a quiet fear:
Not having money means you aren’t safe. You are exposed.

I started holding onto everything.
Broken trinkets, scraps of paper, little things no one else wanted. To anyone else, it looked like junk. But to me, stuff felt like the only security I had. If I held onto things, I felt a little less empty.

I carried that habit straight into adulthood. For years, I struggled with clutter, thinking I was just disorganized.

But an open, empty room just triggered that same old panic of not having enough.

Over the years, I’ve had to consciously unlearn that habit.
I don’t hoard random things anymore, and I’ve learned that open space brings peace.

Still, I have moments where I hesitate.

Letting go of things that cost money still triggers that panic: “Are you sure you can afford to let this go?”

I’m sharing this because I’m not an expert who has it all figured out.
I’m just a mom learning how to let go, right alongside you.

Looking back now, I finally see my dad was just doing the best he could with what he had to support me.
And today, I’m learning to let go of the clutter so my home can just be a calm place to live.🤍🩵💙

If your home feels exhausting right now, save this reminder: it’s not you, it’s the volume of stuff.
Learning these four numbers completely changed how I look at my space🫠

1. Cortisol spike: UCLA found that physical clutter directly triggers higher stress hormone levels in women. It’s not laziness, it’s visual overstimulation.

2. The toy overwhelm: American kids make up only 3% of the world’s children, but buy 40% of the world’s toys. If you feel buried under toys, it’s not just you.

3. 40% less cleaning: Decluttering cuts everyday housework by roughly 40%. Most of what drains us isn’t actual cleaning, it’s just moving piles around to wipe down a counter.

4. The 80/20 reality: We only regularly use about 20% of what we keep. The other 80% is just taking up physical room and mental bandwidth.

Five years ago, clearing out what we didn’t need gave me my time back. You don’t need to organize your clutter, you just need less of it to manage.

The 5-minute declutter doesn’t have to be its own thing on your to-do list.🤍🩵💙

It can live inside what you’re already doing.✨

1. While dinner’s simmering, open one cabinet and pull out the duplicates. The third spatula. The mug you never reach for.

2. While you brush your teeth, scan the skincare shelf. Expired serum, old samples you never opened. Out.

3. While you swish mouthwash, check the medicine cabinet. Expired meds, the cough syrup from 2022. Toss them.

4. Keep a donate basket in your closet. Every time you put something on and it feels off, scratchy, dated, doesn’t fit, drop it in the basket right then.
Don’t hang it back up.

This is how clutter actually leaves a home.
Not in marathon weekend sessions.
In tiny moments inside routines you’re already doing every day.

The math is wild. 😆 Two pieces a day for a year is over 700 things gone, without ever feeling like you decluttered.

Save this for the next time someone asks how you keep your home so light. 📌

When I first learned these stats, it completely changed how I looked at my home.🫠

Most of the time, feeling overwhelmed isn’t about being bad at organizing. It’s just that our spaces are holding way too many things competing for our time and energy.

Here are the 4 stats👇🏼✨

1. The average home has over 300,000 items.
2. We only regularly wear about 20% of what’s in our closets.
3. The average person spends roughly 2.5 days a year searching for lost things.
4. 1 in 4 people can’t park in their garage because of clutter.

Decluttering isn’t about having a perfect home. I’m definitely still working through spaces in mine (our garage included 😅).

It’s just about creating a lighter, more functional space that gives you room to breathe.
Which of these four hit closest to home for you?

✨Welcome to my monthly lifestyle experiment✨

✨3 things I’m committing to in my routine this month:✨

1. Daily journaling: I honestly used to hate this and quit every time 😅 but giving it another shot just to clear out the mental clutter!

2. Bringing back my LED light mask:
I used to do this consistently and saw great results, but life got busy and I completely fell off track. Time to recommit to 30 days of daily use! 🧖‍♀️

3. Real paper and pen on my nightstand: because every time I grab my phone “just to write down a quick note,” I end up scrolling for 30 minutes straight! 😩

Follow along to see how it goes by the end of the month! 🤍🩵💙
Sticking to habits is so difficult on your own, so let’s do it together! 💪🏼🤍

I still use bins.✨I still have a label maker. I’m not here to tell you organizing is the enemy.

But here’s what took me way too long to figure out.
I kept buying systems to feel in control.

More bins, more baskets, a fresh round of labels every time things got messy again.
And for about a week it would work. Then the mess would come back.
Because the bins were never the problem.
There was just too much stuff to fit in them.
You can organize a pile beautifully and still feel buried under it.

The week I actually felt lighter wasn’t the week I organized better.
It was the week I owned less.

The bins came after. They hold what’s left, not everything I was scared to let go of.

📌Save this if your home is organized and still feels heavy.
That’s usually the sign it’s a volume problem, not a storage one.👍🏼

Family road trip to South Dakota, Part 2! ⛰️🦬✨

Bringing the kids to see Mount Rushmore after they learned about it in school was such a full-circle moment and yes, she proudly earned her Junior Ranger badge!

Between spending an entire day splashing at WaTiki Waterpark and getting completely blocked by a wild bison herd at Custer State Park, these few days were unforgettable.
Driving through those massive open landscapes felt like such a classic, memorable American road trip moment for our family.

We closed out the trip hiking around Sylvan Lake before the kids completely crashed out on the ride home. 🤍🩵💙 taken in South Dakota, USA by @rina.hutson
