40 years into this wild journey and I’ve learned that girlhood is a permanent membership. 💕

And, okay, I have a lot of really amazing Kens around too. A coordinated surprise cake dance!? I feel LOVED.

I didn’t plan a single part of this party and got to show up and be with some of my favorite humans.

Did this #Outlander rebind for one of my dearest friend’s 40th birthday. 3 years ago now we did a dual family trip around Scotland and might have highjacked some parts to fulfill our Outlander dreams. Take me baaaack.

Process: Stripped a used copy of Outlander. Used dark blue velvet Wooqu Bookcloth with Rose gold htv Vinyl. Tried my hand at gold foiling edges & failed miserably and sanded that all off.

Panamá 🇵🇦!!!!! I hesitate to say "the trip of a lifetime".... but this was it. We saw sloths (and countless other amazing animals) in the wild, practiced our Spanish, visited indigenous villages, historic ruins, swam in the jungle, hiked, practiced Panamanian dancing, planted pineapples, learned the geopolitics of the canal, and made new lifelong friends. We even watched the world cup finale in an epic setting. And most importantly we got mother/daughter time together I can never get back and wouldn't trade for the world. Tennessee summer! Starting in the East we road tripped across the entire state and sampled the cities along the way.

Dollywood. Smoky Mountains. Appalachian Trail. Gatlinburg. Buc-ee’s. Pimento cheese. North Carolina. Mississippi. Arkansas. Nashville. Grand Ole Opry. Dr Pepper hot sauce. Queso. Country Music Hall of Fame. Beale Street. Memphis Chess Club. Graceland. Waffle House. World Cup games in local bars. Civil Rights Museum. Lorraine Motel. Downtown Memphis. Peabody ducks.

These weeks etched themselves in my heart, somewhat surprisingly. I was especially moved by the people and soul of Memphis, the energy there is so special. 💜 by @ringgerhaus

Seven years ago I gave birth to an audacious little girl named Max Lily.

A week or so ago, Max and I were cuddling and she quietly said, “Mom, I think I like being in charge.” (This is no surprise if you’ve spent more than a few minutes with her, but it was clearly an important moment of self-realization for her little soul.)

And here’s the thing about Max’s leadership heart…. she doesn’t wait for someone to ask for volunteers or for opportunities to come her way, she simply creates them herself. There’s something mildly uncanny about such a tiny soul constantly looking for ways to lead, organize, and pave the way forward for herself and others.

It’s a quality I deeply admire, even if it adds an extra layer of challenge to everyday motherhood. Raising a fierce daughter isn’t for the faint of heart, but I try to be up to the challenge.

Because you want Max in your corner. The world needs Max in its corner.

Her laughter. Her love. Her desire to help and find ways to proactively do things. Sometimes misguided, sometimes wildly impressive. She will make mistakes. She will be too much for many people. And still, the world needs her bold heart.

I pray she never loses her audacity.

As mine has waned over the years, she’s filled my cup back up with love and never ending smiles.

If Max is on your side, you won’t fail. And I am so happy to be a part of her story. Happy Birthday my little baby girl. 🌻 by @ringgerhaus

Kit’s 3rd grade school & sports pics! Football has been an absolute joy for our entire family and Kit is incredibly proud to play center. 🩵🏈 If you can crack through her shy exterior, Kit is witty, curious, and intensely loyal.
