A Legacy in the Making: National Juneteenth Museum

Fort Worth, Texas | October 7, 2026

History was made in Fort Worth, Texas, as community leaders, supporters, and dignitaries gathered for the National Juneteenth Museum’s “Clearing the Way” ceremony, marking the beginning of a new chapter in preserving American history.

The historic occasion held even greater significance as it coincided with the 100th birthday of Dr. Opal Lee, affectionately known as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth.”

A lifelong educator, activist, and Fort Worth resident, Lee dedicated decades to advocating for national recognition of Juneteenth, commemorating June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom. Her tireless efforts helped lead to Juneteenth becoming a federal holiday in 2021.

The October 7 ceremony marked the beginning of demolition at the former Southside Community Center, clearing the site for the future 50,000-square-foot National Juneteenth Museum in Fort Worth’s Historic Southside neighborhood.

Surrounded by community members and local leaders, Lee witnessed another milestone in her lifelong mission to preserve history and educate future generations.

More than the beginning of a construction project, the ceremony represented a legacy of perseverance, remembrance, and the importance of ensuring that the stories of the past continue to be told.

For Dr. Opal Lee, a century of life has become a legacy that will educate generations to come.

Life has a funny way of taking us down paths we never imagined walking.

Some journeys are planned, while others unfold through unexpected turns, challenges, and opportunities. But I’ve learned that every chapter has a purpose, even the ones we don’t understand at the time.

Fifteen years behind the camera, and I’m still finding new ways to grow, challenge myself, and step outside my comfort zone.

What started as a love for photography has opened doors I never dreamed of, including the opportunity to document moments that become part of history.

I don’t know exactly where this journey will take me next, but I know I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be right now.

Never be afraid to take a different path. Sometimes the road you never planned to travel leads you exactly where you were meant to go.

DURANT, Oklahoma — President Donald Trump is scheduled to speak at a campaign rally today, October 1, as Republicans work to mobilize voters ahead of the November midterm elections.

The planned appearance on Choctaw National land also marks a rare visit by the sitting U.S. president to a tribal reservation, adding historical significance on today’s campaign stop.

So excited to share a few from my niece’s homecoming! This one is extra special because it’s her last homecoming—she’s a senior!

It’s so bittersweet watching her experience all of these “lasts” and knowing how quickly this year will fly by. I’m soaking in every moment and feeling so grateful to capture these special memories along the way. Definitely one proud aunt!

She’s always been so driven and I can’t wait to see everything she accomplishes in life.

First look from Day One. 🇺🇸📸

Getting the opportunity to step into a major political event with my cameras in hand was an experience I won’t soon forget. From the crowds and behind-the-scenes moments to everything happening in front of me, there was so much to document.

This was my first time photographing a political event, and I absolutely fell in love with this side of photography.

More from the weekend coming soon. 📸
