THE ALEX EALA EFFECT ✨There was a time when tennis wasn’t exactly the sport most Filipinos followed. Today, that’s changing, and a huge part of that is because of Alex Eala.Her historic Wimbledon campaign captured the country’s attention. She stunned defending champion Iga Swiatek and became the first Filipino singles player to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam, proving that Philippine tennis belongs on one of the sport’s biggest stages.These photos were taken just days apart. First, hundreds of Filipinos gathered at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City to cheer for Alex during a public viewing of her Wimbledon match against Jasmine Paolini. Then, at her fan meet in Makati, the same excitement carried over as supporters who came early to secure a spot up for hours just to catch a glimpse of their tennis hero.For me, these weren’t just photos of a fan meet. They were photos of a sport finding its audience. Tennis deserves this kind of spotlight, and more importantly, our athletes deserve to be celebrated.What stood out most, though, was Alex herself. Despite all the attention, she remained grounded. She took time to greet fans, sign memorabilia, pose for photos, and made sure those who had waited for hours went home with a memory they’ll never forget.Sometimes, growing a sport isn’t just about winning matches. Before this month ends, here are some frames from The Lab Summer Camp 3-D. 🌈This journey has been a bit of a roller coaster. Balancing life as a photojournalist, where I’m always out in the field, while making time for something I’ve loved since I was a kid: dancing.This was my fourth camp at my second home, TADS. Every camp reminds me why I keep coming back.To Coaches @totoy_beruela and @jbmenguito , salamat sa tiwala, at mga front blockings hahaha. I used to be intimidated by the TBxJB class keshi everyone seemed so good. But I realized that if I wanted to get there too, I had to keep showing up, attend classes, trust the process, relax, stop overthinking every count, and simply enjoy dancing. Thank you for your patience. Marami pa akong aaralin, at more tawa. 🦶🏼⬆️To Coach @joeabuda , thank you for another Fem*me camp. Kahit second time ko na, may kaba pa rin. Lagi akong takot na may mamiss na detail. Thank you kasi wala lang, naffront na ako. emeeee. One thing I’ve really learned in your class is the presence of mind. Kasi totoo naman, lagi lumilipad isip ko. Hahaha. Locked in malala.
