God built the water before He made the fish. Days 1–3, He forms the spaces. Days 4–6, He fills them.

We run it backwards. Hire great people, drop them in dry conditions, then write them up for struggling to breathe.

In a lot of organizations, the water is the leader. Your team swims in whatever you’re carrying.

Before you replace the fish, check the water. Start with you.

My 5-minute assessment shows where you’re divided. Reply WATER and I’ll send it. by @rionwrobinson

Most leaders aren’t stuck because they lack skill. They’re still leading from a version of themselves they outgrew years ago.

The old way worked. That doesn’t mean it still does.

People change. Circumstances change. New information comes in. If your answer is always, “This is how we’ve always done it,” your past success can start holding you back.

Pay attention. Adjust. Move forward.

You can’t navigate new waters with an old map.

What’s one approach you need to leave behind? by @rionwrobinson

Every leader is being led by something. 👀

And the people following you are experiencing the effects.

Insecurity can show up as control.
The need for approval can keep you from telling the truth.
The pressure to prove yourself can leave your family with whatever energy you have left.

You can accomplish a lot without ever questioning what’s driving you.

That’s what I’m examining in myself at 40.

Following Jesus has to reach the way I handle pressure, receive correction, and treat people when I don’t get my way. My faith has to shape what others experience around me. 🌱

Your team experiences your leadership.
Your family does too.

So here’s the question I’m sitting with:

What’s leading me—and what am I leaving in the lives of those following me? by @rionwrobinson

I turned 40 today. Let me share three things I wish I’d understood sooner. 🎂

My 30s had plenty of wins. I also took some losses, and a few of those lessons were expensive.

Here’s what I’m taking with me (and a few others):

1️⃣ Hope is heavy. Be careful where you put it.

I’ve put expectations on people and opportunities that they weren’t equipped to carry. A job or a relationship can matter deeply to you without becoming the thing your whole future depends on.

2️⃣ Tell the people who love you what’s really going on.

I had people who loved me. I just wasn’t telling them what I was going through.

Looking back, I wish I’d let them in. Sometimes you have support available, but you haven’t given anyone a chance to help.

3️⃣ Let the season do its work in you.

There were times I left too soon because I didn’t like where I was.

I’m learning to slow down long enough to ask, “God, what do I need to learn here?”

Because nobody wants to keep retaking the same test.

I’m grateful to see 40. These lessons cost me something, and I hope sharing them saves somebody a little time. 🙏🏾

Which one hits home for you? 👇🏾 by @rionwrobinson

“And these people.”

Three words everybody reads right past in the Moses and Jethro story.

When you’re the only one who can do the thing, the cost stops being yours alone. Your people are standing around waiting on you — your team, your clients, the folks at home — morning to night, same as Israel waited on Moses.

And here’s what gets me: Moses wasn’t weak. He was the best they had. Being that capable is the exact thing that made him the chokepoint.

You can’t out-discipline a broken ratio.

So be honest — what in your life only works because you’re still holding it up?

$James 1:8 — A double-minded man is unstable in ALL his ways. Not some. All. That’s why fractured doesn’t feel like one problem. It feels like everything is harder than it should be — at the same time. Work. Marriage. Prayer life. Body. All off. All at once. The Greek word is dipsychos. Two-souled. One body, multiple operating systems. The fix isn’t more discipline. It’s not another planner. It’s not another conference. It’s integration — the boardroom you, the bedroom you, the Sunday you, and the body you running on one operating system again. I help high-capacity leaders go through change whole. Stop blaming the seed when the problem is your soil. 🌱💀

You did everything right, but nothing is yielding a return. The career is empty, the marriage is hard, and you keep planting new goals that just die.

Why? Because you’re building your life on an unhealed foundation. If the soil is toxic, everything you plant withers.

We’re digging this up on the new Shifts and Ladders episode (link in bio). What area of your life is built on bad soil right now? 👇 by @rionwrobinson

Stop calling your preparation a detour. You didn’t waste time; you were in training. 🛑

You are probably frustrated because you look back at past experiences that felt like detours, and you dismiss the skills you developed in that obscurity as completely irrelevant to your current challenges. Stop ignoring the things you do so naturally that you assume everyone else can do them too. That effortless skill isn’t a coincidence; it is your unique contribution. Stop looking for new, complicated armor when God already gave you a sling and a staff designed specifically to help others.

What is the one thing you do so naturally that you’ve been dismissing it as “no big deal”? That’s your genius. Drop it in the comments below. 👇 by @rionwrobinson

God knows your mess. And He still loves you anyway.

Good God, have mercy. I hope that blesses somebody today.

His prayer is still echoing: “Father, make them one as you and I are one.” Healing the fragments starts with accepting the love that meets you in the mess.

Drop a 🙏🏾 in the comments if you needed this reminder today.

You cannot love people well if you don’t love yourself. 🛑

Jesus never told you to love your neighbor more than yourself. He said to love your neighbor as yourself. That means your capacity to lead, serve, and love others is strictly capped by how you treat yourself behind closed doors. If you are constantly burning yourself out and operating with zero grace, you are going to bleed that exact same toxic impatience onto your team and your family.

Where are you demanding patience from others that you refuse to give yourself? Let’s get real in the comments. 👇

You’re not losing.
You’re sowing.

And sowing seasons feel like “nothing is working.”

But Galatians 6:9 reminds us:
harvest has a schedule — and it’s not yours.

Don’t quit before the breakthrough.
Don’t walk away from the field you’ve been faithful in.
Don’t mistake silence for absence.

The ground is working.
God is working.
You stay faithful.
