POSTS STORIES REELS

This has been an absolute whirlwind end to 2022. At the end of October I left for a California road trip that began with meeting my documentary film crew in Moab for a few days. Then Sacramento to shoot a tango event with some awesome people and friends, then to the Bay Area for work and play, finally heading back to Albuquerque via the scenic route. Only a couple days after returning I took and passed my AMGA single Pitch Instructor test, after which I immediate left for Denver to begin shooting as the lead in a feature film with some amazing people! During a four-day break in filming I drove back to Moab for documentary interviews with some very known climbers in 24 hours, then straight to Albuquerque for Thanksgiving and a single day off before returning to Denver to film again! Another few weeks of filming, shooting headshots and my Birthday while also snagging a commercial role and starting a supporting character part in another feature! Oh yeah, and I ran over to Durango to shoot more for the documentary…

…then the mini van went into limp mode and I had to drive the last 200 miles or so at 40mph…😅

Yesterday was my first full day back at the van and she needed quite a bit of love.

Thankfully she’s warm and safe and I have my dog back and I’m working on so many cool
Projects that I’m still a little shocked. But ultimately grateful. I have some big plans for the new year. Thanks to all the help and support that made these last few months happen!!!❤️❤️

In Japanese folklore “hotaru” are viewed as the wandering souls of fallen soldiers or ancestors.

✨There was no outward sign of the magic this place held. Spaces can hold more than the life around it. A time capsule of moments beginning and ending. Here the trees swayed different, the meadow sang in the wind and as the light faded, something shifted as the smell of sun-warmed plants conducted the various stages of life and death. They emerged as if summoned - a nostalgic blur of light. Each sense audience to a quiet, private spectacle. The tiny deaths of the fireflies took a piece of her each time. In awe of versions of herself left behind. Time turns everything into a graveyard. But in even the briefest of sparks is the story of the sun. All she needed was to say goodbye.✨

There’s a line between witness and participant. The longer you stay and observe the more you become part of the moment.

What it says to me about living—
when the books happen alongside the bed
(One I’ll probably never get back),
There’s a silent fan running on heat,
and somehow, there are never any blankets.

I wonder what morning looks like
for a man made of canvas and soil
when it’s the hands that give it away
and the dog knows more than I do
about what happens next

I have all these stones you grew
and some basic directions. Half asleep,
I left the postcard somewhere.
So convince me, you’ll have to —
Whatever it is, it’ll never be that easy again.

I’ll remember your name but forget
Whatever you happened to be.

I’m ending the year with a thought/minor epiphany on shared moments. This expands into social anxiety and mental health for many, specifically around the idea that we can, in the end, choose how we want to remember ourselves in any given moment. I think treating yourself with kindness is fundamental, remembering yourself kindly is harder. Projecting kindness into a future self is (not just a matter of language and verb tensing) but a matter of pre-meditated self-love.

Wishing all a kind and loving new year. Onwards and forwards, through time, and a great experience.

Spilled Beer

I am not adverse to poetic moments
what we remember is about language
tensed verbs for spill: to spill, spilled memories
how we want to be seen or see
gifted in a cute planter, I fix your collar
before you leave, the glass falls
you don’t even remember it
but you smile, a hand on my leg
(soft deceptions to myself tomorrow)
and now I see that I can choose
which moments are mine too.

I forgot today was my birthday
Not actually my birthday, but a day of celebration.
I look into one eye, and then the other
And wish I could see my worth in them
But I realize it’s a scene, not a reflection.
A great party in a moment just for me and what I’ve done,
What I will do, and all I’m capable of.
And if I don’t stop to celebrate it, no one else will.

As the year closes out I wanted to share some highlights as an actor/small business owner/nomad - of which many are life-long bucket list items. This was my first full year with short hair. This was the first year I booked, on average, a commercial gig every month. This was my first official lead on a feature film (there have been un-finished projects in the past) and I had THE BEST time. And I’m ready for another one. I was also supporting in two other features that I’m really excited about as both pushed my comfort zones in unexpected areas (dialogue, wardrobe, singing, etc). I made new friends, I reconnected with old friends. I laughed a lot. My business has grown by a huge amount and I’m still getting things stabilized but it’s been SO much progress. I made HUGE mental health leaps. I worked with so many new faces and businesses! I took dozens of new landscape photos across 12+ states. I went to Nepal. I bought a car and a new work laptop. I had so many people reach out about my work as an actor and photographer. I truly feel I’ve landed on the two things I love the most.

So thank you. It’s everyone reading this that helped in some way.

Birthday’s are weird. “Do you feel any different?” Of course not! “How old are you?” As old/young as you think I am😉 “Is this a milestone birthday for you?” Not to sound corny, but every day is a milestone of some sort.

I had two plans for this birthday: 1) my typical brewery hang out on Saturday. Done. 2) check out the new bakery and taste flights of gourmet donuts. Done.

I have cool friends who do these things with me. I’ve made progress on goals. I’ve traveled all over the country AND to Nepal and back this year. I mended fences (maybe literally and figuratively), bought a car, upgraded the business and overall just am real figgin’ proud of myself for getting though some things that weren’t easy (short term and long term). That’s life, right? Make sure the little enjoyable things are there like tea at golden hour or a hammock lie-down in the woods.

Thanks for being here. ❤️ by @risascott

So good to have my doggo back 🥰😍😋 by @risascott

There’s only one place to sit
Just the corner of a mattress
Meeting against two walls
Where it feels ok to be here
I cannot see when you’re looking at me
I’m focused on the walls, the desk,
What’s hanging in the closet.
In the dark, how will you know
If I’m still here?
Looking around this room,
Haunted by things I only remember later
Do I have everything I need?
My favorite jacket, the ghost in my pocket,
Even though I know it’s too warm
I want you to see me in it.

All it takes is an invitation

I live outside
four walls and a bird
for conversation
flit in and out but I'll stay
or take it with me.
I'm a cloud of rain
an option for the day
a reason to go
partly, they say,
here and gone
but always outside
with a bird (or two)
and a conversation.
