Making pretty pictures and having fun. 🙌🏼
We couldn’t have made this first year of Risewell possible without the amazing folks on our productions teams and the creators who allow us to bring their stories to life.
Here to many more years 🥂 by @risewellprodco

This film wouldn't be possible without @vedikaparekh, our Editor! Her most recent work includes assistant editing on Come See Me in the Good Light (Apple TV+) — which won the Festival Favorite Award at Sundance 2025 and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Feature in 2026— and assistant editing on a current feature documentary directed by Holly Lander.

Drawn to stories about human connection, female experience, and the specific texture of everyday life, it's no surprise to see her on our crew roster!! 👏👏👏 by @risewellprodco

We are so fortunate to have @donijahcollier on our team as DP! He aims to create diverse, innovative stories that evoke emotion. He hopes to tell stories like WTPLF that have cultural and political impact on our society, guided by his passion for the humanities and visual storytelling.

Before we step onto set, we want you to know who's building this film.

This week, our producing team! 🐄🛸✨

@ijamaicaresse, an LA-born Producer whose short When The Swelling Goes Down won the Cannes World Film Festival. Credits include Netflix, Disney, and Bad Robot productions like #blackAF and You People. Also a poet and community arts educator rooted in work that uplifts Black communities.

Ani of @risewellprodco, the strategist behind our social campaign, a producer bringing decades of event production, project management, and digital marketing experience to the team. Has built multimillion-dollar marketing strategies and mentored emerging talent across the industry.

And our fave (!!) @ston.h.er, Chicago filmmaker and Columbia College Chicago grad (Cinema & TV Arts, 2020) with credits at WTTW, DC Entertainment, and The CW. Currently Director of Operations at @mezclamediacollective supporting 700+ women and non-binary filmmakers of color.

When the Porch Light Flickers is a collaborative act of love. This is who's doing it. We are so proud of what we're building together.

Behind every great film is the producer -- the glue, the logistician, the negotiator, the accountant, the therapist, the reality check holding the team down and lifting the project up -- we wouldn't be where we are in our funding and pre-production journey without @producer_tasha 😭

Thank you for all the ways you show up every day!!

A bit about her: Natasha is a Chicago-based integrated producer whose skills span commercial, print, documentary, and indie filmmaking. She sits on the board of the Midwest Film Festival and contributed to the fest as the head of Strategic Partnerships and Media. Natasha excels at managing high-impact and agile productions from creative development through post-production.

Her professional history includes commercial/print production and award-winning work for brands such as the Ad Council's “Love Your Mind” men’s mental health campaign, Cottonelle, Dramamine, Kleenex, Glad Trash Bags, Poise, Diners Club, and TheraTears. Documentary filmmaking, most recently the award-winning doc, The Light of Truth: Richard Hunt's Monument to Ida B. Wells, and a slew of indie projects slated to release in 2026-27.

Be on the lookout for indie films, Soul Fighter, The Program, and Covert, where she leads production and is known for blending visual storytelling with logistical expertise 🔥 by @risewellprodco

This one goes out to all the BTS baddies. These folks usually aren’t meant to be seen, but at Risewell we want to spotlight the folks behind the camera quietly working to tell stories through the lens, with a mic, with a prop, with a costume, brush stroke, or marked check box.

There is no way we could’ve completed the labor of love that is “You Smoke?” without these incredibly hardworking and talented filmmakers. I felt overwhelmingly grateful to look across set during our overnight shoot to see the community connections we’ve built over the years that are helping us to tell stories by us and for us.

Since filming in April, we’re excited to share that we’ve got a picture lock cut and have submitted this film to Black Harvest and Black Alphabet! If you know of other aligned festivals and screenings please DM us!

We’re so excited to share this queer club film with the world. But our first order of business once it’s ready? A cast and crew screening, of course.

With love,
M

We've been quiet. Now we're ready to talk.

When the Porch Light Flickers is a 15-min grounded sci-fi short about a Black family's farm, a grandmother's strange stories, and things that fall from the sky.

We're raising funds to bring it to life.

Stay tuned for when our Seed and Spark link is in bio. by @risewellprodco

fortune said and it was so 🥠✨🥂 can you believe it’s one year since leaving my corporate advertising job?!! 👏🏾😏 i can barely believe it!!

it’s wild to think about all the ways i’ve since expanded in confidence and my relationship w being visible. how i learned to suspend belief in what’s possible.

work in june looked like postpro meetings and submitting to film festivals (!!), body modeling, location scouting farms, solidifying friendships, nighttime walks, and my first filmscape! that was a really wonderful experience bc if there’s nothing else i’ve learned, it’s how important it is to turn around to root for the folks who have collaborated/supported/hired/affirmed/cheered me on, making this whole Risewell thing possible 🥹. if you’ve gotten coffee w me these last few months, THANK YOU. i have so much appreciation for your time and sharing your craft, industry knowledge, wisdom, jokes, contacts, gigs, and dreams with me. it meant more than i know how to say without choking tf up 🫶🏾

oh, if you make it so far, that last video was me sitting in millennium park (nbd across from my old office building), taking in just how many facets of life can change in a year 😌🎢 by @risewellprodco
