Jackson and Hannah’s Wedding Trailer

As a wedding filmmaker, our role is unique. We get to be apart of the happiest day of our clients lives. And as the bride and groom, you get to decide exactly how you want it to be. Pick the perfect plates, the perfect shoes, the perfect venue. It is all great and so amazing that we can do this, but this wedding was one of the first of its kind that I personally have been able to be apart of. It was the most raw wedding I’ve ever been to.

When I say raw, I don’t mean unfinished or unprepared, I simply mean unfiltered. It wasn’t a production, it was Jackson. It was Hannah. It was about Jesus.

I find it so true that the most special weddings aren’t counted by dollars spent, the number of guests attending or anything you can count on your hands like how many flowers are on each table. The most special weddings are the ones that most accurately reflect the couple. This was that sort of wedding.

You can see so clearly by the testimony of Jackson and Hannah’s friends and family what kind of people they are. They are people that want nothing more than their marriage to reflect Jesus and his character. This was one of those weddings where when I found out I was shooting it, I might as well have set a timer because I was THAT excited. I knew I was going to be part of something greater than any individual involved.

The full wedding film of Colton and Olivia.

As I head into busy season, I needed to post this full film from February first and say a few things.

This one is very special to me. Colton and Olivia have the most incredible story I’ve had the opportunity to be apart of yet. Their entire story is a testament to the goodness of God.

I felt as I was editing this film that it was actually a benchmark or turning point for my wedding films. I just really feel like I’m starting to understand the strength in storytelling. As I was editing this film, I just sort of would have moments where I just sat at my desk and said, “wow.” Who these two are is so pure and their willingness to follow their calling is something I found myself admiring the more and more i’d listen back to their letters to each other, their families stories, and the picture of these two miracles standing at the altar to step into the craziest adventure yet, moving to Japan to spread to gospel.

It’s just awesome, and I consider myself so lucky to have played even a small part of documenting their story so far.

Here’s the full story. Almost two years ago, I was riding my motorcycle to the gym when an inattentive driver pulled into the road without seeing me. No—I wasn’t speeding (confirmed by authorities), and it wasn’t even at an intersection.

My first memory after the accident was regaining consciousness in the back of an ambulance. It took a while for things to come into focus, but once I realized that I wasn’t dreaming I quite literally started calling out the name of Jesus over and over. I begged Him to let me live as stories of riders passing from internal bleeding ran through my mind.
.
After arriving at the first hospital, it was discovered that—on top of some broken bones and a handful of other injuries—I did indeed have internal bleeding around the area where my pelvis had shattered. I was then rushed to another hospital where the bleeding could be stopped.
.
I would spend the next month hospitalized. It was brutal, but the Lord gave me grace to get by. I saw Christ so clearly through my family, church, and medical team while hospitalized. All in all, I was unable to walk for two months.
.
Soon after I was released from the hospital, I shared a post about some of the things the Lord had taught me in my suffering. In that post, I shared that I still felt called to pursue mission work in Japan regardless of how my recovery progressed. By the providence of God, that post ended up on Olivia’s feed. She followed me, and I reached out shortly after.
.
Our first conversation was about our shared love for Japan and cross-cultural ministry. When we met for the first time, I was still in my wheelchair. On our first date, I remember trying hard not to limp, as I had just started walking again. We fell in love fast.
.
The rest is history. Olivia was God’s answer to more prayers than I can count. While it took going through the darkest season of my life to meet my life’s greatest blessing, I would endure it again and again if it brought me back to my bride. Thank you Jesus.
