Saudade - drop 005
Last item highlight. Growing up, i saw my great grandma Elsa’s sewing machine every time i went to her house, she didn’t sew anymore but i remember saying i’d learn how to do it just like her. My favorite cousin David’s paternal grandma, Sonia, was a bridal designer, each piece entirely handmade by her - i also told her that one day i’d learn. She passed before she could see me start creating, but i’m sure she knows i did it. When i challenged myself to learn beading for the first time, i chose the hardest path possible: seed beads and a large canvas. After 100 hours of hurting every single one of my fingers with a needle and getting extremely close to not making my deadline, i did it. And i was proud. For my country and the beautiful artistic women I’ve had the privilege of being inspired by.

Saudade - drop 001
After sitting on display for about a year, once I finally got my capstone back I realized I never made a decision on who’d get to wear it or who’d get to shoot it - who would be able to capture my work and my love for my country correctly?
Thankfully, my amiga brasileira and model Isa, and my dear photographer and friend Jay were down - two people who love art and Brasil as much as I do.
Enjoy looking at the first set of pictures featuring my patchwork boots as much as we enjoyed collaborating on this project, so much love was put into making it all happen.
