Two states. Same state of mind. ADVENTURE! 🍂

📍 Copperhill, TN + McCaysville, GA

Just north of Blue Ridge sit two historic mountain towns that share a downtown, with a blue line painted right through the streets marking the Georgia/Tennessee border! Copperhill was once a booming copper mining town, and today you can literally stand in two states at once.

A little history, a little exploring and two boys who had no idea they were getting a geography lesson on fall break. 😂

Truth be told, I’ve always had a bit of a gypsy soul. Give me a reason to pack a bag, take the scenic route or explore somewhere new and I’m in! Thankfully, these two little sidekicks seem to have inherited that same sense of adventure. They don’t need a big plan or a fancy destination. -while they love a good wine & dine 🤣 They’re just happy to go, see and experience something new. (As long as I keep the snacks coming, of course.)

This last minute fall break getaway with lifelong friends was exactly the kind of trip I love. extravagant in our own way, getting away from the everyday, laughing with people we love and watching our kids make their own memories together.

Because the older I get, the more I realize it’s never really about how far you go or where you end up. It’s the people beside you, the stories you bring home and those little moments you didn’t even know would become memories.

And if there’s one thing I hope my boys carry with them, it’s to stay curious, say yes to the adventure and never wait for the perfect plan to go make a memory. 🤎 taken in McCaysville GA and Copper Hill TN by @rissaroo05

Last month we celebrated our littlest turning SEVEN, which is still almost impossible for me to wrap my head around. Seven. How in the world did we get here so fast?

Oh, our Sawyer. What a JOY this child is to our lives.

If you know him, you know he’s got a personality all his own. He’s wild, spirited, hilarious, a little rebellious, and about as sweet as they come. He keeps us all on our toes, but I truly cannot imagine our family without him. He’s that little piece of our family puzzle we didn’t even know we needed until he was here.

He’s our sports-loving, adventure-seeking little traveler who wants to go everywhere, see everything, and try just about anything once. Except maybe new foods. We’re still working on that. 😂

He loves puzzles, reading, math, art, and anything that makes him think. He’s got a natural knack for acting and entertaining, which honestly makes perfect sense if you’ve ever spent five minutes with him. He’s incredibly smart and naturally talented at so many things, but what impresses me most is how hard he’s willing to work to get better at something. He loves a challenge, and I hope that never changes.

And his brothers. Goodness, how he loves those boys. I don’t think there’s anybody on this planet he loves more.

He’s a little bit of everything, and I love that about him. He can be wild and crazy one minute and the sweetest, most thoughtful little boy the next. He’s curious about the world, always ready for the next adventure, and somehow makes even the most ordinary days a little more entertaining.

And of course, his birthday memories are only fitting with his current favorite song, Michael Jackson’s Beat It. Because why wouldn’t that be a seven-year-old’s favorite song? 😂

Sawyer, I hope you always keep that wild little spirit, your curiosity, your love for learning, and your willingness to try new things. I hope you always know how much joy you bring to the people around you and how incredibly loved you are.

Michigan, WOW! truly, thank you! Wow! Is really all I can say about this amazing state we were lucky enough to visit for a dear friend’s 40th. There are so many additional amazing moments I want to share and may have to have a part two! For this life we have prayed for and I’m so grateful you choose this crazy life with me! We visited so many gorgeous sights, met the most amazing people - STAYED at the Grand Hotel and yes it looks exactly like the movie. Back to school here we come!!!!!
Summer was a blast, it happened so fast - we cant hardly believe we are at the start of another school year. Blessings to all of the kids, teachers, staff and parents these next few months. Our family celebrated big this week because our sweet Lawson turned 9… and I still can’t believe we’re saying that.

Somehow, the years have flown by faster than I ever imagined. It feels like yesterday we were in Bed watching Big Brother (of course) with @maddiebgrant awaiting the call from drs to be induced and early in the night you decided to come on your own in true Lawson fashion!

If the world could see the little boy behind these pictures, they’d know he’s so much more than a kid who loves dinosaurs, Legos, and making us laugh. They’d see a heart that is incredibly kind, generous, thoughtful, and full of imagination.

Lawson has a way of making people feel loved. He’s the kind of kid who notices when someone needs help, who celebrates others, and who reminds me every day that kindness is one of the greatest strengths a person can have.

People often say parents shape their children, but the truth is, my children have shaped me too.

I truly believe I needed Lawson in my life every bit as much as he needed me. He’s taught me to slow down, notice the little things, laugh more, and see the world with curiosity and wonder. Watching him grow has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.

More than anything, I hope he always knows there are no limits on what he can become. My greatest prayer isn’t that he chooses one particular path, but that he never loses the kind heart, curious mind, and joyful spirit that make him who he is.

Happy 9th Birthday, Lawson Lee.

You are deeply loved, endlessly celebrated, and one of God’s greatest gifts to our family. We are so proud of the young man you’re becoming, and we’ll be cheering you on every step of the way.

Here’s to another year of adventures, big dreams, family memories, and celebrating the amazing person you already are.

Yes, believe it or not I agree with you. I too think I am crazy. Maybe we all are a little bit gift? If I can be honest I’d rather be called crazy for doing this vs the alternative. We should all be trying to stay as active as we can as long as we can.

Looking back on this race- I don’t want to forget that We met an amazing runner during our half marathon If you watch she stuck with us from the beginning.

I hope I never forget her name was Haley. Her WHOLE family was there cheering her on!

•this Race truly was so fun and if you’re looking for a good place to start they offered a 5K 10K half marathon option
Plus the theme being Christmas in July made it super cute people were dressed up in the most adorable creative outfits, and most importantly- every single one of us beat our previous personal records plus knocking off several milestones. I personally placed second in my age group, which I have to admit to you I was shocked for how many people were there. It definitely lit a fire under me to keep going!. I’m excited to start my new training program next week. Please be sure to follow me if you’re just like me wanting to run but equally hate running at the same time. It’s easy to look from the outside in like this is so simple and easy for me, but I promise you running is hard but running is rewarding and it’s normal to walk during a race if you’re still here and you’re reading this drop something in the comment so I know you’re here excited for my next race in October #rissaruns taken in Atlanta Beltline by @rissaroo05

Okay as promised here is my fav parenting trick!
•ANYTIME we go ANYWHERE…. I play a game, that only I know we are playing 🤣🤣
I compete to try and say “OMGOSH hunny—- that was amazing or WOW you just did an amazing trick BEFORE they can ask “hey mom watch this!”
I make sure I use their name and make eye contact so they KNOW I saw this “awesome flip”. In doing this I’ve noticed they rarely ever even say “hey mom watch this” bc before they could, I have showed them I am already watching!
Love this hack just wish I had started doing it sooner! Also, if no one has told you today you’re doing an awesome job.
