“A Common Ground” – 2026 RIT Visual Media Capstone Exhibition

View Luke’s work at the Opening Reception:
Friday, May 1 | 6–9 PM
The Yards Collective, Rochester NY

In the days leading up to the exhibition, we’ll be highlighting each of our graduating Visual Media seniors and their capstone projects! Luke is our last senior for the class of 2026!

Luke Solby is a multidisciplinary visual artist working in photography and design. His practice explores memory, identity, and perception through both digital and analog processes, often using light as a way to shape emotional and visual experience.

His capstone project, “Where We Begin, Again”, uses archival materials, family photographs, and new imagery to construct a layered narrative that moves between past and present, reflecting on how memory is continually rewritten over time.

“Where We Begin, Again approaches memory as something emotional and fragmentary. Rather than reconstructing the past, the work reflects on how revisiting it reshapes the present.”

Join us on May 1 (TOMORROW!!!) to experience “A Common Ground” and celebrate the work of our graduating seniors!

Since I’m the last senior, I wanted to take this moment to thank @ebaker_ for making this possible for us. From graphics, to photo shoots, to so much planning and helping each and everyone of us, she’s been the best capstone professor we could’ve asked for. Thank you Emily! 💙 taken in RIT College of Art and Design by @rit.photo

Hey everyone!! My name is Gina Lehmann (@gallerybygina) and I’m a 4th year Ad Photo student specializing in still life + prop styling 🫧🌷👜

Growing up in Rochester, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life joining the NYC Study Away program — and I couldn’t be more grateful for all the opportunities I’ve had this semester. My internship with @coreymaywalt has given me incredible experience working on commercial still life sets and learning how to navigate the industry. In just a few short months I’ve met some truly amazing people, and I can’t wait to continue working with you all in the city post-grad!

My work is heavily inspired by color and I enjoy building visual scenes with curated aesthetics. Whether I’m shooting products, tabletop, or something abstract, my focus is always in the details. My senior Capstone project highlights the value of aesthetics in the industry, using styling as a means to contextualize imagery for advertising purposes. I can’t wait to share it with you all very soon! 📸

The success of this program wouldn’t be possible if not for the monumental efforts of @iamlaurieobrien, @michellebablitz and @meghanmarin ! You’ve truly shaped our experience here, and I’m thankful every day for all your hard work and dedication 🫶

Thank you all so much, and please consider joining us on May 1st for our final exhibition!

Much love from New York <3 taken in New York City by @rit.photo

Hi! My name is Elijah Lopez (@elijah.lopez.photo), and I am a second year AD student from Philadelphia 🦅

NYC is somewhere I have always wanted to visit, so being able to spend a semester here sounded like a great experience. I was able to secure an internship with Steven DeVilbiss who is a jewelry photographer, where I assisted him on set and managed aspects of his social media. He was an incredible boss and person, and really helped me this semester with my professional career

For my creative project, I decided to focus on various vintage thrift stores between Manhattan and Brooklyn. It was a really fun project to work on and I love how it turned out. Every store was rich with so much culture and they were full of beautiful items. The store owners were very kind as well!

NYC is such a beautiful city and I am happy that I was able to experience it for the last 5 months. There is just always so much to see, do, and especially eat. I could definitely see myself living here in the future. My sister also lives in the city and she helped make my time here so much more fun

I want to say thank you to Laurie, Meghan, and Michelle for being such awesome and supportive professor’s for the last couple of months. Also thank you to my friend Duke for showing me around the city and helping me find all of these thrift stores. by @rit.photo

Hii squad, I am taylor caraballo (@tayc.photo) an AD photo senior back in nyc for the semester 🐀

Throughout this semester I had the opportunity to work in digital marking at YINAN NYC. I got to help produce NYFW events, cast talent and create social media campaigns! I absolutely loved learning what goes on behind the scenes, and being able to collaborate with such talented people.

Growing up in the city, I was surrounded by community and a whole lotta art. I am often inspired from my surroundings and how I saw the world as a child. My semester project Paper Dolls blends the puppet history of nyc and my own history in nyc, it’s super fun and you all should check it out MAY 1ST!

Finishing my college career in nyc has been amazing. I’ve met so many creatives, learned so much more about the photo industry and got a taste of what working in the city is like.

All of these experiences is what lead me to this program in the first place, the first hand industry experience is so valuable and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Huge thank you to our lovely professors @michellebablitz, @erinpatriceobrien, @meghanmarin and @laurieobrien for making this program as amazing as it is.
