Had some very exciting news this week. Not only was High, Soft & Open selected for @greenwichfilmfestival but it’s also been nominated for four awards including Best Film, Best Composer, Mental Health Awareness Award and Emerging Filmmaker Award 🥲🤯

So proud of this film and everyone who worked on it. Massive congratulations to @freddielordfreddielord for the best composer nomination. He’s a composing wizard so if you’re a filmmaker in the market you should definitely give him a shout! Also thanks to @jackgillenguitar for providing the gorgeous guitar 🥵

All the pool scenes were filmed at Charlton Lido so it’s nice to bring the film back to the area :)

If you want to watch it in the big screen it’s playing on Saturday 20th at Picturehouse Greenwich. Otherwise you can still watch it online on girlsinfilm.net

HS&O was also screened earlier this summer as part of @womens_voices_now festival, which was an honour! It will be held online in their Voices for Change Film Collection :)

“If we really want control of our own bodies, we have to fight for it.” A quote taken directly from the 1970 seminal feminist manual, Our Bodies, Ourselves. Although half a century on from its original publishing, the book is still being used to challenge medical dogma, energise the reproductive rights movement and, for documentary filmmaker Rita Conry @ritamariaconry, as reference to how far (or little) we have come. High, Soft & Open is a hybrid documentary that delves into the often-overlooked mental health side effects of hormonal birth control. The film weaves together a tapestry of eighteen anonymous women whose shared, yet often silent, struggles, are reconstructed for the screen through actors within London environments.

To celebrate the release of High, Soft & Open, UNCLE partnered with Rita to deliver the film and its message of conversation deep into the streets of the UK through flyposting. Read the full interview through the link in @uncle_insta’s bio. by @ritamariaconry

Feels wild to say this but High, Soft & Open is finished 💃🏻
Gemma and I started putting the roots down for this film 8 years ago. We’d read about a study which found teenagers on the combined pill were 80% more likely to be prescribed antidepressants than those not, and we were like: “no shit.” Since then, there does seem to be a bit more acknowledgement of birth control’s impact on mental health (even @davinamccall has made a documentary about it!) but still not enough…

We screened the rough cut at the Reproductive Health Histories reading group meet up and someone said it was like a really beautifully shot tampon advert, which I am delighted about.
