Huge thank you to the Sophie Smith Fund for this award, it is such an honour to be part of Sophie’s legacy. For those of you who might not know, Sophie had an immense passion for the Australian music scene and emerging artists. She connected to the words within music through her deep understanding and observation of human emotions - meaningful lyricism greatly enriched her life from a young age. After her time studying abroad in London, she moved to Sydney to explore more opportunities within this passion of hers. Devastatingly, Sophie passed away in 2014 due to Hodgkins Lymphoma at the age of 27.
Her beautiful family work hard to honour her passions and enable Sophie’s legacy to have an effective impact in her hometown. The Smith family teamed up with @wam_musicwa to create the ‘A Song for Sophie’ award, which focuses on lyricism. I was lucky enough to be the recipient of this years award & feel a responsibility to honour Sophie through my next projects. Thank you again to the Smith family & WAM, not an award I take lightly ❤️ by @riyana.sam
