As I'm growing as an artist, I'm constantly reading and learning new things to develop my craft. I recently learned about Négritude and how it birthed afro-Surrealism. "My life isn't meant to be frictionless"-- an excerpt from my journal post about my experience at the @thespeedproject Because I love pushing my own limits and seeing what I'm made of, I've been wanting to do this since 2023. The thing about spiritual awakenings, they're actually miserable and painful. I want to be clear, I physically feel amazing. But this emotionally rattled me.Physical exhaustion coupled close proximity for days is a recipe for conflict with others and most importantly yourself. Violence is necessary because ego deaths are necessary. But without ego, nothing would be done.This experience taught me a few things about myself that I feel comfortable with publicly sharing: (1) I'm ambitious as fuck, and when I want something, I go and get it, no matter how long it takes. (2) I'm more than capable of leading people through the desert. (3) I have a lot more to learn about leading, and that's okay. I get to fail (fly) forward. (4) I need connection, grace, and empathy. There's still a very soft 6 year old child that lives inside of me, and she often begs people to do things for her, like buy her nail clippers or someone to run with her in the dark because she feels sad and unheard (5) I'm also a tough old bird, built for all conditions.I had a blast; I had a conversation in French, I met another Renee, I saw beautiful sunrises, moonrises, sunsets, and moonsets. I ran on route 66! I also learned that I fly when I run, so that's my runner's high! Thank you to @ahvntay for being my TSP sounding board. Thank you @lilyguevara4 for making the schedule and providing the map and walking us through the strategy. Thank you @dyanaapplebaum for answering my phone calls so I could cry. Thank you @isaacninetofive and @johngarduno_ for being the best photographer, crew, and friends.
