Home feels different when it’s 9000 kilometres far. It feels different when you only visit twice a year for a combined time of less than a month. It’s hard to stay connected when home feels like the size of Jupiter, yet you’ve never ventured past that street sign.

But it still feels like home. You’re intrigued by it’s extravagance, nostalgia and mundanity. It makes you wonder:

“Am I travelling or returning?”

It’s all you could think of as you munch on a humble bowl of 炒肝儿. You’re not sure of it’s cultural significance but you know damn well it’s authentic… it’s literally a bowl of slop. It tastes good, and that’s all that matters.

You’ve lived 18 winters across the Pacific, and you sure have it better than the kids here. But that 8 month old boy who flew over the ocean knows, if all else fails, there’s always another place you can call home.

The bed here is rougher than what you’re accustomed to… but you still sleep soundly at night. taken in My Other Home by @rlg_ling
