Hockey is one of the hardest sports to shoot — fast, dark, and behind glass. You don’t need to be a pro, but the right gear and a real plan make all the difference. 🏒📸

Swipe through for exactly what I do rink-side: settings, gear worth investing in (or buying used), positioning, and the stuff nobody tells you — like why the glass is your biggest enemy. Save this one for game day. ⤵️

Editing outdoor field sports 🏐 🏃‍♂️

Freezing peak action outdoors means fighting bright or flat daylight and a background that wants to compete with your subject. Here’s how I got this GAA football shot from flat capture to final edit:

📸 400mm | f/3.2 | 1/2500 sec | ISO 200 — fast shutter to freeze the jump, wide aperture to melt the trees into a wall of green

🎛️ Lightroom breakdown:
→ Pulled highlights, lifted shadows to hold detail on both jersey and grass
→ Gentle S-curve for depth without crushing blacks
→ Warm midtones/highlights + cool shadows in color grading for subject separation
→ High masking (80) on sharpening so only the player and ball get the crisp treatment — background stays soft

9 rules that changed how I shoot roller hockey 🏒📸

Shooting in local indoor rinks is HARD — low light, fast unpredictable action, and shooting through glass (no shoot through holes!). Swipe through for the rules that actually make a difference (and a few settings tips for anyone else shooting in a dark rink 👀).

Which tip do you want me to go deeper on? Let me know in the comments 👇

Semifinal W! 🙌 Congrats to the @riflesrugby on their win over Mad River-Stowe. Thanks again for having me on the sidelines, always a great time behind the lens. Good luck in the @newenglandrugby Finals! 🏉💚💛

WOLVERINES 10, KICKING MULES 1 🐺🏒

Such a fun night shooting, and so good to see my boys out there! 📸❤️

The Wolverines jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and never looked back, finishing with 10 goals on 47 shots, all at even strength, in a game with zero penalties on either side.

Pink Out night. @nhgirlsvolleyball vs. Hill House. 💗🏐

I got to try a couple of new lenses and a few new angles, shooting with a 70-200 f/2.8 and a 24-105 f/2.8. Getting low, shooting through the action and catching the swing, the serve toss and the reach for the dig made it a really fun night behind the camera.

A little court side action with the JV team. by @rmchatten

❤️🤍 North Haven JV 🏐📸

Every game is a chance to try something new. This season I’m swapping lenses and moving around the gym to find the angles that tell the story best. Thanks to @nhgirlsvolleyball JV for the great action to practice on!

U18 HS Open - Orange crew in action. 🟠🏒

Hard skating, quick decisions, and a shot or two that got the bench on its feet.

Beckett in the crease with @yaleyouthhockey U18 HS Open - Orange. 🟠🏒

Tracking the puck through traffic, tying up a scramble at the post, and a few quiet moments between plays. A goalie’s whole game is reading what happens next.
