This Saturday at 3:00 PM, we begin the first lesson of our fall catechetical instruction in English.
This 8 week module, Catechism I, is intended to begin the change of mind—or worldview—necessary for life in the Orthodox Church. Through lectures, comparative analysis, question-and-answer sessions, guided reading, periodic reviews, and pastoral instruction, catechism seeks to equip participants for the lifelong journey toward the true goal of human life: to become fully human in Christ, a “little Christ”—a Christian.

В эту субботу в 15:00 начнётся первое занятие осеннего курса огласительных бесед на английском языке.
Восьминедельный курс «Катехизис I» имеет своей целью положить начало тому изменению ума и мировоззрения, которое необходимо для подлинной жизни в Православной Церкви. Посредством лекций, сравнительного разбора, бесед в форме вопросов и ответов, чтения под руководством наставника, периодического повторения пройденного материала и пастырского наставления оглашение призвано подготовить участников к пожизненному пути к истинной цели человеческой жизни — к тому, чтобы во Христе стать подлинно человеком, «малым Христом», то есть христианином. by @rmog_official

🇺🇸: Join us each evening of the Dormition Fast (excluding during the feast of the Transfiguration) for an Akathist to the Mother of God. The services will be bilingual, alternating English and Church Slavonic. See service schedule on our website for more details.

🇺🇸: After a year of preparation, we welcomed TEN souls into the Holy Orthodox Church this past Saturday. Family and friends came out to support their loved ones and witness the Mystery of Baptism. May God grant Many Years to His newly illumined servants and handmaidens!

Shortly after the baptisms and a festal meal, Vespers was served—during which 3 inquirers showed up for their first ever visit to an Orthodox Church. Our Lord is doing something special in America, our churches are overflowing with young people; and it's not only Americans—young Russians, Ukrainians, Moldovans, Greeks—they are all coming home to the Church.

In the Gospel, Our Lord says that the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Let us increase our prayers, our almsgiving and show our Lord Jesus Christ that we are ready and willing to do this work he is calling us to. Let us use the talents He has given us to bring forth good fruits. Then we will know the joy of the Psalmist when he says "how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell on unity."

🇷🇺: После года подготовки в минувшую субботу мы приняли в лоно Святой Православной Церкви ДЕСЯТЬ душ. Родные и друзья пришли поддержать своих близких и стать свидетелями Таинства Крещения. Да дарует Бог многая и благая лета Своим новопросвещённым рабам и рабыням!

Вскоре после Крещения и праздничной трапезы была совершена вечерня, во время которой к нам впервые пришли трое людей, только начинающих знакомство с Православием. Господь совершает нечто особенное в Америке: наши храмы переполнены молодыми людьми. И это не только американцы — молодые русские, украинцы, молдаване, греки — все они возвращаются домой, в Церковь.

В Евангелии Господь говорит: «Жатвы много, а делателей мало». Умножим же наши молитвы и милостыню и покажем Господу нашему Иисусу Христу, что мы готовы и желаем совершать то дело, к которому Он нас призывает. Будем использовать данные Им таланты, чтобы приносить добрые плоды.

И тогда мы познаем ту радость, о которой говорит псалмопевец: «Как хорошо и как приятно жить братьям вместе!» by @rmog_official

Sometimes the fasts and feasts fly by, other times they seem to drag on as we struggle against ourselves to become who Christ created us to be. What makes both possible is the living community of faith where the love of Christ is experienced. We see newborns brought into the Church, adults reborn in baptism, our fellow parishioners commit themselves to the church by serving in the clergy. This is the mystery of faith!

While we're not always posting photos, we are always coming together to worship the Holy Trinity, to celebrate the saints, and to support one another. Our community has grown tremendously over the last year and we are grateful for the opportunity to share our faith with those inquiring into the Holy Orthodox Church. Come and see!

🇺🇸: Yesterday, we welcomed our Lord and Savior on His entry into Jerusalem. Holding palms and pussywillows, we, like our forebearers, shouted, "Hosanna! Blessed is He Who cometh in the Name of the Lord!" After the jubilant services - contrasting as they do with those of Lent and Holy Week - our community celebrated a festal meal, with many lingering well into the afternoon.

In Russian practice, pussywillow branches replace palms (palms being exceedingly rare in Russia), being the first plant to bloom as winter yields to the warmth of Spring. Like Christ, they are the first-born from the dead. Here in America, palms and pussywillows mix freely; American converts learn of the history of pussywillows in Russian practice and adorn their prayer corners with them, while our Russian parishioners learn to make palm crosses, which they add to their bundles of pussywillow branches.

🇷🇺: Вчера мы встретили Господа и Спасителя нашего при Его входе в Иерусалим. Держа в руках пальмовые ветви и вербы, мы, подобно нашим предшественникам, восклицали: «Осанна! Благословен Грядущий во имя Господне!» После торжественных богослужений — столь радостных и контрастирующих с великопостными и страстными службами — наша община разделила праздничную трапезу, и многие оставались вместе до самого вечера.

В русской традиции вербные ветви заменяют пальмовые (поскольку пальмы в России встречаются крайне редко), являясь первым растением, расцветающим, когда зима уступает место весеннему теплу. Подобно Христу, они — первенцы из мертвых. Здесь, в Америке, пальмы и вербы свободно сочетаются: американские новообращённые узнают об истории вербы в русской практике и украшают ими свои молитвенные уголки, а наши русские прихожане учатся плести кресты из пальмовых ветвей, добавляя их к своим букетам вербы. by @rmog_official
