@thelotradio debut as @federationdeejay. Really proud of this showing and the smiles in the room definitely gave me all the flowers I needed. Truly beaming because I believe this is me. Introducing: Gey Sinan, a language learning app I created back in March to help me learn my father’s tongue. We come from a place in Ethiopia called Harar and its language is Gey Sinan. Using this app, you can learn basic phrases in the Harari via Arabic, Ge’ez or Latin characters.

This has been the culmination of a lot of my work both with LLM tooling in general over the last 3 years and my undergraduate research in the Natural Language Processing Lab at Columbia University. I’ve developed a set of processes that use LLMs to help create corpuses of words (dictionaries) from a diverse range of materials (books, readings, even audio recordings). I’ve begun to develop this into an actual tool that can be used to assist researches as they attempt to persist dying languages or even resuscitate dead ones. This is a fundamental use of AI for social good and for the preservation of ancient knowledge via language and I couldn’t be happier to present it to you.

You can go to geysinan.com now! Please note: this is incredibly early in the research process. There will be downtime, there will be bugs and most importantly, there will be mistakes. Please, keep this context in mind as you use the tool. I do not claim to be an expert in Gey Sinan, in fact, I created the app to help bring me beyond the speaking level of a small child (to be completely honest). So that’s what you’re working with — a serious WIP that has potential to reshape learning / cultural development.
