If we had to recommend the perfect 2 day autumn trip in the Peak District this is what we would say… 🍂

48 hours of woodland, bikes, pub lunches, a gritstone edge, a castle and a cave. This is autumn off-peak at its best 🧡 AD

☀️ DAY 1

🌲 Padley Gorge and Longshaw walk from Grindleford Station - the route we do is about 4 miles with varied views all the way.

🍽️ Lunch and drinks at The Maynard to refuel. @themaynardgrindleford

🚲 Bike hire from Bike & Boot, Hope Valley, riding the Thornhill Trail to Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs - we did a 17 mile ride but you’ll reach the reservoirs very early on so you can do as much or as little as you want. @hopevalleybikehire

🛏️ A cosy night at Bike & Boot after having your evening meal there. We also checked out the cinema room and watched Shrek! @bikeandboot

🌅 DAY 2

🥞 Breakfast at the Bike & Boot (we’ve got another big day planned for you)

🏰 Castleton, Cave Dale and Peveril Castle

🕳️ A tour of Peak Cavern, where people lived inside until 1915 - learn how they used the cave for rope making & have a go at making it yourself. @peak_cavern

🍺 Lunch and drinks at The Scotsman’s Pack in Hathersage where you can also sit in Little Johns chair! @thescotsmanspack

🥾 Hathersage up to Stanage Edge, past what’s said to be Little John’s grave.

🧗 Stanage Edge sunset walk where you will most likely see plenty of climbers as it’s a world famous spot, check out Robin Hoods Balcony and It’s also where Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Bennet scene was filmed for the 2005 Pride & Prejudice 🎬

Take layers and a waterproof, because the best bit about autumn is that you don’t need perfect weather, we just got very lucky!

Save this for your own autumn break 🔖 and send it to whoever you’d take 💌

The beautiful Padley Gorge 🍂

Is this the most magical time of year to visit here? ✨

Chatsworth Christmas Market opens THIS Saturday. 🎄

100+ stalls, mulled wine, German beer, churros and a very big house lit up behind it all. Hard to beat for getting in the mood.

Who are you dragging round? Send this to them 👇

📌 Save for later. More Peak District walks, stays and pit stops on our site, link in bio.

Canoeing down a river in the Netherlands wasn’t on our 2026 list but we’re so glad we did it! 🛶

Booked onto a trip and we were the only ones on it so we were completely left to our own devices.. which made it extra special.

8km down the river, look out for kingfishers - we saw 4!! And beavers 🦫.. we only saw their path of destruction 😜

Adventure is always worthwhile!

We found an abandoned car tunnel 🚘 🤩

Would you explore here?

Peveril Castle looks very different from below 🏰

Cave Dale starts right in the middle of Castleton, and as you walk up the dale the castle sits high on the slope above you. It’s in the Domesday Book of 1086, and Henry II added the stone keep in the 1170s. It’s wild to think how long it’s been watching over this valley.

Happy Halloween Bestiiiies 🎃 👻

Rumour has it, we’re too old for trick or treating so we chased each other for a bit before heading home to dip pigs in blankets in Camembert in front of the fire 🔥

It’s kinda the same.. just better 🤪

Have a good un chaps 👻

High Tor Chasms .. this spot is very picturesque.

A lot of people get close, but not many go inside, would you?

Three completely different walks, and all of them shine in the autumn.

Which one would you do first? 👇

📌 Save this for your next Peak District weekend. Full walks are on our website, link in bio.

It’s the weather for waterfall hunting and we found a beauty! 💦

Ladybower Reservoir is so low right now that you can see the remains of a lost village. 👀

Derwent and Ashopton were flooded to build the reservoir, which started filling at the end of 1944. The church spire stayed standing above the water for a while, until it was dynamited in 1947.

It only shows when levels drop this far, so if you’re anywhere near the Peak District, get there while it’s low.

Take care near the edges. The exposed ground is soft and people have got stuck in the mud here before.

Have you ever seen it like this? 👇

📌 Save this for your next Peak District trip.

This spot was such a good find, but who’s been?

Located just a short walk off the High Peak trail you’ll find this rocky outcrop, trig point, cave and amazing views over Carsington Water 💦
