“without ordinary life, there is no art.” -Jeff Buckley. Last night was one of the best nights I’ve had in this lifetime- not only was I able to get into the premiere of the Jeff Buckley documentary & the only showing where his mother would be there doing a q&a at the end, but I had the honor of meeting her after the show. I chose the song hallelujah because she said when she first heard his version of this song was when she knew who he was as a musician. Feeling blessed and charmed and honored to be able to hear about the life of one of my favorite artists from the woman who knew him best ✨ by @roastedtomatoes__

and I got to spend my 31st birthday in Chicago & got to see some of my favorite friends from college, got to see my pops & explore the beautiful city of Chicago & I can’t wait to go back someday. I always had a feeling my 30s would be great and so far I’m right 😋 by @roastedtomatoes__

You may be wondering how I managed to kick start my business & graduate at the same time. the simple answer is that I didn’t. i did, however, finally get a diploma for work that i did 8 years ago. the bigger accomplishment in my mind is that i returned to a place that i had avoided for many years. i set off to moody Bible institute at 19 years old with plans to be a missionary & soon realized that not only was it not for me but neither was the religion that i had dedicated my young life to. many of you know how hard it is to leave a religion. it is isolating & quite literally a loss of reality as you know it-and to top it off, how un-christian people treat you when you leave (which i have compassion for now, because it is all just fear). for a lot of people who leave it is the first time they’ve truly thought for themselves. but 8 years later, i felt strong enough and at peace enough to finish what i had started (which was only filling out a grad application) & was privileged enough to graduate in the original moody Bible institute in Chicago.
I’m not sure Id have much in common with Dwight L. Moody these days, but i do know that he was a person who had a great amount of passion about helping others, bringing them a message that they longed for about forgiveness and love and hope in dark times. He was a person who wasn’t idle when the world was crumbling around him, and for all of those reasons i am honored to graduate from the school he started in 1886. Like him, I’m not perfect in my thinking or actions, but I couldn’t help but reflect on who I was at 19- an aspiring missionary- and who I am now. much healing had to take place and a lot of mistakes and a lot of learning how to live in the world without someone telling me what to believe. but 11 years later, I still notice that my passions are the same but I carry them out differently. I hope that (the right) people feel loved and seen when they are with me, that maybe I could still bring some sense of hope and that there’s something greater than us all, because I still sense that there is. excited for my next chapter and where finally having my degree will take me ✨ by @roastedtomatoes__
